Tesla, the carmaker founded by Elon Musk, has filed a lawsuit against an Indian battery manufacturer.
The lawsuit alleges that the battery maker has violated Tesla’s trademark by using the name “Tesla Power” to market its products.
Tesla is seeking damages and a permanent injunction from a judge in New Delhi.
According to details of the proceedings made available on the court website on Friday, as reported by Reuters, Tesla revealed that the Indian company in question had been persistently promoting its products under the “Tesla Power” brand, even after receiving a cease-and-desist notice in April 2022.
During the hearing, Tesla Power India Pvt Ltd stated that its primary focus is on manufacturing lead acid batteries, with no plans to venture into the production of electric vehicles.
According to the court record, the judge granted the Indian firm a three-week period to provide written responses after it submitted a set of documents to support its defence.
The next hearing for the Tesla India trademark case is scheduled for May 22.
