Twenty members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives have threatened to defect from the party if their colleagues confirm Mbah’s nominee as the new Woman Leader without due consultation.
In a letter addressed to the PDP leadership, the lawmakers warned that any attempt to railroad the candidacy would undermine party democracy and unity.
They stated: “We will not fold our arms while the party’s consultative process is thrown into disarray.” The group urged that the nomination process be suspended and subjected to broad-based party dialogue.
The dispute centers around a controversial selection made by House leadership loyal to Minister Dora Mbah, which critics allege bypassed zonal rotations and internal party protocols.
As tensions escalate, party insiders fear that a wave of defections could weaken PDP’s strength in the House and shift the balance of power ahead of the next general elections.
