Death Toll Rises to 10 in Afriland Towers Fire in Lagos

Officials have confirmed a rise in fatalities to 10 following the fire outbreak at Afriland Towers, a six-storey commercial building on Broad Street, Lagos Island. The latest update came after United Capital Plc reported six of its employees died, adding to four staff confirmed earlier from the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

The fire reportedly started around 1:30 pm in the inverter room in the basement. Smoke quickly spread, triggering panic. Some people attempted to escape through windows as firefighters responded. At least nine people were rescued; five had been revived, while four remained unconscious.

Rescue efforts continue as authorities strive to account for missing persons and confirm the exact casualty figure.
