2023 Polls: Handing Over To Tinubu Might Jeopardise Judicial Process – Uzuegbu (SAN)

…The only remedy is to deliver judgement on the Presidential Election Cases before May 29th

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Ben Uzuegbu says that handing over to Tinubu might jeopardise the entire judicial process with the consequences of undue interference which he noted may affect the outcome of the case.

Uzuegbu, therefore we, called on the judges who are sitting on the cases to exhibit quality leadership, sound judgement and a high sense of maturity in handling the matter speedily before the 29th May handover ɗate, adding that Interim National Government (ING) being propagated by a section of the public was not known to the constitution.

The senior lawyer while making an appeal to the nation’s Appeal Court and the Supreme Court of Justice to engage in speedy adjudication of cases emanating from the widely disputed Presidential Election results in the country in which the Presidential Candidate of the ruling APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu was favoured by the electoral umpire, INEC, advocated that the only remedy to the imbroglio was to deliver judgement on the Presidential Election Cases before the May 29th date to avoid ploughing the country into avoidable political crisis.

He said doing so would save Nigeria from an untold political crisis having witnessed a highly flawed Presidential Election which he noted could not be compared to any Presidential contest since the history of the country.

Chief Uzuegbu said that the Supreme Court should handle the matter with utmost diligence, maturity and a sense of patriotism since both the international community and well meaning institutions across the globe have beamed their searchlight on the nation’s judiciary and the country’s electoral process.

The community leader from Eziowelle, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State stated that it would be unfair to handover the mantle of leadership to Ahmed Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of APC whose purported mandate is being hotly contested in court.

ANN recalls that there have been nation -wide rejection of the Presidential Election results by most Nigerians, the  international community and democratic institutions which sent observers to monitor the polls.

However, the outcome of the controversial Presidential Election has continued to generate tension in the country, especially within the judiciary with hopes and tension heightened while waiting for the judgement of the first court of instance in the Presidential Election which is the Appeal Court.

The Presidential Election Cases which are now pending in the Appeal Court is expected to get to the Supreme Court. Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr.Peter Obi and his counterpart of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar are challenging the outcome of the election which are believed to be massively flawed.

The heightened fear by Nigerians if the matter gets to the apex court is not far fetched taking into account of recent controversial judgements involving some politicians of the ruling APC who were allegedly favoured by such “circumstancial” judgements.
