…We needs legislators who understand what it takes to make laws
House of Representatives candidate for Young Progressives Party, (YPP), Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Mr Kingsley Chukwudozie Uyammadu (Otosi Achalla) has said that Nigeria needs legislators that will feel the pains of the electorates and masses.
Uyammadu who was at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center, NUJ Secretariat building Awka to interact with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Anambra State Council led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD during the February congress of the union commended members of NUJ Anambra chapter for sticking to the ethics of their profession, Uyammadu emphasized on the need for the Fourth estate of the realm to stand on the truth at all times through their reportage.
“Journalist are like the prophets of today. Anything that is not revealed by the media will remain hidden. I believe that God will use you people (Journalist) as instrument in making my dreams come true.
“Legislation is about proper representation but unfortunately most of our lawmakers don’t have what it takes to be at the national assembly. It is only in Nigeria that people are appointed and elected to occupy positions they know nothing about.
“We need legislators who understands and have what it takes to make laws. People who can tackle issues in the environment. Electorates need to go beyond the party and look at the individuals.
Uyammadu who suggested that debates be organised for candidates contesting for positions so that they can prove themselves, called on Anambra NUJ to support his ambition of getting into the green chambers.
” For the past twenty years, Awka North has not produced a representative at the national assembly but sometimes, you don’t win elections with emotions and sentiments. Am challenging anyone with a realistic manifesto to come out let’s see.
“I have travelled far and wide, and my experience has shown that it is not education that made China, India and other developed countries what they are today. Only skills can redirect the minds of youth away from crime.
“Education can bring enlightenment, but cannot stop people from engaging in crime, especially with the lack of jobs in Nigeria. What made those countries is the acquisition of skills. They gave their young people skills, and the people used it to put food on their table.
“I am privileged to have received education, but that is not what made me who i am today. I have skills, and I have worked on my skills
People graduate from the University every day, but where are the jobs for them?
“Education is not for everyone, but everyone is born with an innate skill that if well harnessed can take them through in life, “ Uyammadu said.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD commended Mr Kingsley Uyammadu for his civility in the conduct of his campaigns, and wished hiim well in his ambition.
Comrade Odogwu described Uyammadu as an orator who has the potential of becoming the next governor of Anambra state. He encouraged electorates to go for their PVCs and ensure that they are part of making a new Nigeria possible.
He informed that NUJ is an unbiased umpire in the electoral processes, and would not hesitate to shout should anything go untoward, adding that a free and fair election is what everyone is praying for.
