2023 Polls: Women Elected Into 10th Senate, House Of Reps – SEE LIST

According to the results of the general election in 2023, men will hold the remaining 96.5 seats in the 10th National Assembly, leaving only 3.5% of seats for women.

Only 15 of the 423 parliamentary seats won and declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as having been elected at the recently finished February 25th Presidential and National Assembly elections are held by women, according to ANN, while 408 are held by men.

The elected legislators include 98 out of 109 Senate and 325 out of 360 House of Representatives seats. Altogether, seven parties won in the Senate, while eight parties won House of Representatives seats.

Though INEC had announced winners for 423 legislative seats, the electoral body noted that supplementary elections would be conducted in 46 other constituencies.

From the list of federal lawmakers elected, women got two seats in the red chamber and 13 in the green chamber.

Breakdown Of Political Party’s Representation

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has the highest representation in the 10th National Assembly, with 57 Senate seats.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won 29 seats.

Other party representation goes thus: LP, 6; SDP, 2; NNPP, 2; YPP, 1; and APGA, 1. For the lower chamber, the electoral chair said the APC has 162 seats; PDP, 102; LP, 34; NNPP, 18; APGA, 4; ADC, 2; SDP, 2; YPP, 1.

Female Senator-Elect

Of the elected lawmakers, the deputy governor of Rivers State, Ipalibo Banigo, was elected the representative for Rivers West Senatorial District on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The second female elected to the senate is Kingibe Ireti, who won the seat for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on the platform of the Labour Party. She is the wife of Baba Gana Kingibe, a former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).
