2023: Shun Religious Politics, Tinubu Support Group Charges Nigerians

As reactions continue to trail the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigerians have been urged to shun religious politics that could truncate the nation’s democracy and hamper development.

Tinubu had picked former Borno State governor, Alhaji Kashim Shetima as his running mate in the poll to hold, come 2023.

A support group, the Jagaban Political Group (JPG), made the appeal on Saturday in a statement issued by one of its coordinators, Bukky Olajide, maintaining that the Tinubu and Shetima joint ticket should not be seen as an affront against Christianity but rather a formidable team that would help to salvage Nigeria from doldrums.

The group, while making the plea, implored Nigerians to see themselves as an entity and join hands with the APC towards electing experienced and credible leaders in 2023, describing them as a blessing to the country.

Besides, it described Asiwaju Tinubu as a philanthropist who had helped many Nigerians to achieve their dreams and aspirations irrespective of religion or tribal affiliation.

“This team is made up of experienced administrators that have excelled during their days as governors of Lagos and Bornu respectively. The choice of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji kashim Shetima as both the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a blessing to the nation,” the group stated.

The group, while further urging Nigerians not to listen to enemies of the nation who it said were bent on dividing the country through religion as the country, according to it, belongs to all Nigerians, posited that religion needed to be seen as a unifying factor that would engender good governance, transparency and peaceful coexistence in the interest of the citizens.

JPG, therefore, called Nigerians to support APC during forthcoming general elections, saying they should de-emphasise the issue of religion as it wouldn’t do the nation any good but cause confusion and disharmony.
