The United States will host the 2024 Copa America as CONCACAF and have united to form a new strategic partnership.
The two federations announced their new partnership on Friday, with the news headlined by the confirmation that the U.S. will host the 2024 Copa America.
CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez said the two organisations wanted to see “more and better competitions and for football and its values to grow and strengthen throughout the hemisphere. Without a doubt, both confederations believe in big, and we will work with this orientation”.
The tournament will feature 10 CONMEBOL teams, six CONCACAF/guest teams. For the U.S., Mexico and Canada, this provides them with a high-level, competitive tournament on the road to the 2026 World Cup, which they will host across the three countries.
The Copa America isn’t the only result of this partnership, as the federations also confirmed that the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup will feature four CONMEBOL teams.
Three CONCACAF nations, the United States, Mexico and Canada, are jointly hosting the 2026 World Cup and holding a 16-team tournament two years prior is seen as the perfect appetizer for fans and test for organising bodies.
The Copa America in 2024 also ensures that the three host nations, who qualify automatically for the expanded 48-team World Cup will have additional competitive games in preparation.
