Nigerian Artists Earn Over ₦60bn on Spotify as Streams Surge

Nigerian artists generated more than ₦60 billion in revenue from Spotify in 2025, with earnings rising over 140 percent in the past two years as local and global demand for Afrobeats continued to expand.

The figures, released in the platform’s latest Loud & Clear report, show Nigerian tracks logged 30.3 billion streams and 1.6 billion listening hours last year. Local consumption of Nigerian content jumped 170 percent year-on-year, while Nigerian artists accounted for more than 80 percent of songs on Spotify Nigeria’s Daily Top 50 chart.

Spotify Africa Managing Director Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy highlighted the sector’s momentum: “Nigeria’s music story continues to be one of creativity, innovation, and global cultural influence.”

The report also noted gains among emerging acts, with streams by female Nigerian artists up 55 percent and independent artists recording a 75 percent increase, representing about 58 percent of total royalties paid out.

Nigerian tracks now appear in millions of user-generated playlists worldwide, opening new revenue streams beyond traditional markets.
