French President Macron to Visit Nigeria This Fall

French President Emmanuel Macron will pay a state visit to Nigeria this fall, the French Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Marc Fonbaustier, has announced.

Fonbaustier made the revelation during France’s National Day celebration in Abuja, describing it as a chance to review bilateral ties two years after President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Paris.

“Together, our two Presidents will assess the progress of our roadmap and outline the key elements of our relationship for the years to come,” he said.

The envoy emphasised equality in the partnership. “The partnership between Nigeria and France is, in reality, not just in words, a partnership between equals,” Fonbaustier stated.

“This equality among members of the international community is the cornerstone of the United Nations Charter, which Nigeria and France continue to defend.”

He highlighted shared goals in economic development, job creation, environmental protection, security, and agriculture, citing recent commercial deals and cooperation projects. Fonbaustier also noted Macron’s personal connection to Nigeria from his student days.

The visit is expected to strengthen strategic ties between the two nations.
