27 Villages In Nimo Community Competes As Zeelunjo Unity Cup Tournament Kicks-off

Zeelunjo Unity Cup 2024 has kicked off officially on Saturday 25th May 2024 as Amafum Village tackled Ebonano Village in a highly entertaining football match.

President-General Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU) Engr. Dan Anakpe (Zeelunjo) while speaking before the kick-off of the competition said he intend to unite the community more through the tournament which will feature the 27 villages.

Engr. Anakpe who is the sponsor of the competition, urged the youths of Nimo participating in the football tournament to maintain the spirit of brotherhood and fair play, stating that the competition will be sustained and hopefully discover hidden talents.

Vice President-General NTDU, Hon. Chigbo Aniedobe, Former Chairman NTDU Lagos branch, Barr. Chuks Okonkwo, Deputy Chairman Njikoka LGA, Hon. Chekwubechukwu Obiefuna, Hon. Calistius Anigbuogu and Hon. Chidiebere Okonkwo in their seperate speaches commended Anakpe for reviving the football tournament in Nimo community, urging the youths to utilize the opportunity. 

” Sports is a symbol of unity. The essence of this tournament is to unify the youths of Nimo more. We pray that God will make it possible so that the intentions of Anakpe will be realized”. They said. 

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that it was a thrilling encounter as both teams created chances in a first half until skillful Chiboy Ikejide breaks the deadlock in 40th minutes.

Ifeanyi Ochbudi made it two nill in favour of Ebonano Village few minutes into the second half of the game. 

Energetic Tochukwu Agbim who was introduced in the second half scored twice as the game ended in a 2:2 draw, leaving both teams with one point each.

Talented Agbim, in an interview after the match said “It was an exciting game. Our opponents capitalized on our mistakes but am happy that i scored twice after i was introduced in the second half of the match. I thank the PG for sponsoring this tournament. Am sure It will unit the youths of Nimo and produce more talents. 

Central defender of Ebonano Village, Ikejide Daniel who was the ‘man of the match while speaking said It was a tight contest.

” Engr. Dan Anakpe (Zeelunjo) the PG and sponsor of the competition is from our village and we wanted to win todays game in his honour but unfortunately we draw the game”. This award will encourage me and my team mates to perform better in the next games.

Speaking while giving the man of the match award, Hon. George Ogbunandu commended Anakpe and the organizing committee for the success recorded in making sure that the competition held.

“We have waited for more than twenty years for this day to come. The last tournament was held more than two decades ago. The legacies of this tournament will be preserve as it has the potentials of discovery hidden talents in Nimo’ He said.
