7 secrets to Nollywood Stardom

Everyone wants to be a star, but not everyone knows what it takes to be one. Or is ready to pay the price. Contrary to some false conjectures and propaganda as to what one needs to do to break the glass ceiling to stardom, there are indeed proven secrets most persons that broke even and joined the top screen faces applied, either consciously or unconsciously. Below are 7 of them. Thank me later.

Secret 1: Never take sides or join fights: as a member of a drama club or the Actors Guild of Nigeria or such like that gives us the platform to showcase your passion for acting, never join issues with anyone. Maintain a most cordial relationship with everyone in the industry. Many people who made it to stardom in the industry did so through referrals.

Secret 2: Identify with an association: Of course, you should have deduced this from the first secret. But if you haven’t, here you have it. Make yourself a functional member of a movie acting association. Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, is the easiest and closest to that international stage you seek. There are several others but I can’t vouch for them.

Secret 3: Work with as many producers as possible. One movie can never make you a star.

Secret 4: Avoid entanglements at all cost. You can get Favours with sex but that won’t last long. The notion that our Nollywood stars use their body to get cars and Favours but that’s not true. Let’s do a little maths calculating her net worth and how much she is paid daily to post ads on her social media handles.

Secret 5: combine acting with behind the scene roles to sustain yourself while you work towards creating an impressive impression that will push you into being a favourite screen face. The first few months of venturing into this adventure called acting could be unnerving especially if you don’t have a side hustle. So, to integrate yourself faster into the industry, you need to start learning behind the scene jobs like make up, cinematography, artistic directing, and so on.

Secret 6: stereotyping is not good, even though it seems easy. Versatility ensures longevity.

Ramsey Noah that used to act romantic roles, acted an assassin in Blood Sisters. Mike Ezuluonye started as a lover boy but evolved into other roles over time. If you stick to dibia role, when there is no dibia role, you won’t have a job. And they won’t pay you well for such role too.

Secret 7: invest in self improvement: read books, study star characters that have similar demeanor with you. Enrol in acting classes. Exhaust acting lessons on YouTube and elsewhere. You have to stoke the passion of acting and the movies to be found eligible for fame by the spirit of Nollywood. ABS RADIO/TV, Awka under the direction of Uche Nworah started acting class and it would be a good place to start if you are close to ANAMBRA State.
