Since the Monday sit-at-home banned by the newly elected Governor of Enugu State, Mr Peter Mbah, Nsukka today being 10th July 2023,  has experienced some low turnout and business owners, traders still obeys IPOB sit at home order.

Quite contrary to what we expected.

Business owners are still in fear on Mondays due to recent happenings or IPOB claimed activities, especially in Ebony State.

Here in Nsukka, ANN have taken a walk to seek the reactions of business owners on how they have been copping on Mondays.

One Mr Emmanuel Obi, a carpenter based in Nsukka town took the opportunity to react to an event that occurred few days in an area popularly called Behind Flat, close to the University of Nigeria Nsukka.

“Nothing really happened last week. It was rumoured that an unknown gunmen shot a gun from Peace Park and people began to run. Business owners at Behind Flat heard such rumours and began to park and run.

“I can’t really explain what happened. We didn’t see anybody shoot. But you know you can’t stay while you see others running.

ANN Correspondent seek for more clarification from Mr Obinna.

“That day, It was only discovered that a vulcanizer over pumped a tire which busted and was mistaken for a gunshot.”

Another business owner, Mr Christian Osunkwo also shared with us his experience and fears every Monday.

“I feel afraid every Mondays when i open for the day. Road dey fear me.

When asked if the Governor’s ban of Sit-At-Home have been helpful, Mr Osunkwo said since the physical involvement of the Governor of Enugu State, has mounted pressure on the Coal City.

“Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo, unlike Enugu have always encounter series of IPOB activities because their Governors talk too much.

“The IPOB get angry and irritated when they are being challenged by the Governors. This has made Enugu and Nsukka unsave.”

Mr Osunkwo said he opens on time every Mondays but not constant with it. He also talked about banks not opening on Mondays in Nsukka.

ANN took a glance at some banks around Nsukka and confirmed that Banks don’t operate on Mondays. Could it be that the Governor’s ban isn’t effective?

Lastly, ANN Correspondent in Nsukka to opportunity to speak with secondary school children who have been affected by Monday off school.

ANN gather that school children only go to school four times a week as a result of Monday sit-at-home — although some school uses Saturday to make up for the lost schemes.

“Sometimes we finish the terms without completing our scheme of work and we still see questions never being thought on exam day” Miss Akachi Ugwu told ANN.

Miss Akachi Ugwu added that despite the governor’s recent order to end the sit-at-home, but it seems the governor himself is observing the day.

“Mr Mbah tells us to go to school but he himself is observing the sit-at-home”.
