Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Transport to as a matter of urgency, evacuate all the trucks and lorries that are stationed along Onitsha – Enugu express way around the old Ogbunike toll gate and around Stanel Filling Station Agu Awka to avoid impending road mishap.

The member representing Anaocha 2 Constituency, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu while moving the motion stated that part of Onitsha — Enugu express way is presently wearing a face lift owing to some construction works that took place on one side of the dual carriage way.
According to Hon. Okechukwu” Trucks and lorry drivers presently dump or park their vehicles on the express road around the old Ogbunike Toll gate and around Stanel Filling station Agu Awka.
“These trucks and Lorries are usually parked on the both sides of each of the express road thereby leaving a very narrow part for the commuters to ply.
“These stationed vehicles have caused a lot of accidents and loss of lives on that road in the past, especially at nights. If these vehicles are evacuated, the roads will be wider and clearer for the road users.
” We need to take pro-active measures. We should not wait until accidents happen before doing the needful”.
Speaking in support of the motion, Hon. Nobel Igwe, Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke, Hon. Patrick Okafor, Hon. Tony Muobike, Majority leader. Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon. Azubuike Udemezue, Hon. Chimezie Ikwunne and Hon. Fredrick Ezenwa urged the state governement to do the nedful
” When coming from Onitsha to Awka, their are gridlocks which narrows the road. And if care is not taking, one may run into another vehicle unknowingly. This are consequences we dont want to have in the state.
“This is a life saving motion. Artificial parks should be created because this lorries causes difficulties to road users.
