* The Transition Committee Chairman of Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, Engr. Anayochukwu Orjiako says two holding centres have been adequately prepared for the safety and well-being of victims in Ihiala, should the proposed flood devastations of this year begin to wreak havoc. Orjiako who disclosed this in an interview said one of the holding centres is situated at Ihiala local government secretariat while the other camp is located at Odata Primary School Ihiala. He said the camps have been adequately prepared to help occupants feel comfortable.

* The members of the 10th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has paid a visit to Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd.
ANN gathered that about 12 top members of the house were recieved by the Chairman/CEO of Innoson Vehicles, Chief Innocent Chukwuma CON and management of IVM who took them on a factory tour of the IVM plant at Uru-Umdim, Nnewi, Anambra State.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo has inaugurated a two-day Consultative Meeting on Prostitution in Anambra. Speaking at the event, Mrs Obinabo appreciated National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for its collaboration with the Ministry since the government of Prof Chukwuma Soludo came on board and assured of continued support even as she advice participants to always report any trafficking activity in their neighborhood for prompt intervention.

* Anambra state has begin free antenatal and delivery services in all primary and secondary health facilities across the state. Disclosing this in an interview, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ben Afam Obidike, said the commitment of the present administration towards provision of comprehensive healthcare for the citizenry can not be overemphasized, as government strives to achieve universal health coverage with prompt response to the health needs of the people.

* Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu has said that though people are showing interest, and are going further to appreciate ongoing efforts by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration to give Ndi Anambra a better place, it is yet to fully role out people-oriented programmes in the environment sector. Speaking after he received award as “Ambassador of Development and Environmental Sustainability” from Freenews Magazines, a Port Harcourt-based publication, Engineer Odimegwu, who dedicated the award to Governor Soludo, said more trees will be planted in the bid to make the state environment green and sustainable.

* Traders belonging to the UPJA Plank and Joist Association in Bridgehead Market, Onitsha, Anambra State, are demanding a compensation of seven hundred million naira (N700m) from the Anambra State Government and Onitsha South Local Government Area for the unjust demolition of their plaza. In a pre-action notice served to the Local and State Government, the Market’s leadership, represented by their lawyer, C.I. Okoye of Iloegbune Okoye and Co chambers, demanded the immediate reconstruction of the plaza.

* Comrade Chukwudozie Chika Grace, a Mathematics Teacher at the Catholic Girls’ Secondary School Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State has emerged the State Chairman, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Anambra State wing. ANN reports that Comrade Grace Chukwudozie
won with 152 votes to defeat her opponent, Onyegbosi Ngozi, who got 38 votes in an open ballot contest. The newly elected Anambra NUT Chairman is expected to pilot the affairs of the Union for a period of four years.

* Police Operatives attached to Area Command Headquarters, Onitsha while on township patrol received a distress call at about 9.30 P.M. of a kidnap incident around Borromeo Roundabout. The Operatives responded to the distress call and caught up with a shuttle bus in which the kidnapped victim was held. The highly trained operatives professionally engaged the kidnappers in a shootout without harming the hostage who was rescued unhurt.

* The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) says the reason behind the present power outage is caused by the interruption of supply from its source of power at TCN Station, Onitsha. All feeders within the EEDC Awka district are currently without power for days now as a result of this occurrence.

* The Federal Road Safety Corps says it has devised a range of strategies to effectively prevent road accidents during the upcoming ember months. The Anambra State Sector Commandant of FRSC, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi disclosed this while speaking with the press at his office in Awka. Mr. Irelewuyi called on the residents of Anambra, to adhere strictly to highway regulations and exercise caution throughout the festive celebrations.
