* The Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, says the reason they are demolishing shanties and busting criminal hideouts in the state is to ensure a clean and healthy Anambra State and also assist in ridding the state of hoodlums and unscrupulous elements. Anere who stated this in Awka, the Anambra State Capital, noted that the operation was carried out by a special enforcement team of OCHA Brigade saddled with the responsibility of chasing away all the criminals operating within Anambra State.
* Operatives of Anti Kidnap Squad of Anambra State Police Command have smashed yet another kidnap gang, this time at Nnewi Ichi. ANN gathered that the Squad which was on patrol with vigilante men on 13th September, 2023 got information about the kidnappers hideout and stormed the place. According to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, a kidnapped victim found in the hideout was rescued and conveyed to a hospital at Nnewi for treatment. One of the suspected kidnappers was arrested.
* Traders in the popular Bridgehead Drug Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, have asked the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to allow them to elect their leaders as against the existing caretaker committee imposed on them by the state government. The traders, under the aegis of ‘Concerned People of Ogbogu’, in a statement made available to journalists in Onitsha, on Wednesday, threatened a legal action if the state governor failed to allow them to conduct their elections.
* The Anglican Bishop of Ogbaru Diocese Right Reverend Prosper Amah says accepting Jesus Christ comes with total healing, breakthroughs and recovery. In a sermon at St James Diocesan Church Centre Iyiowa Odekpe during a Cash harvest of Anglican Diocese of Ogbaru, Right Reverend Amah charged the faithful to embrace Jesus as their Lord and personal Saviour in order to receive more of His blessings.
* Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo has explained that one of the primary targets of the crusade is to establish a new approach to health, and make moral values an involuntary way of life among children and youths in the state. Mrs Soludo who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Awka, maintained that by taking the crusade to schools first by way of healthy living clubs, her goal is to instill an early-stage awareness of what living right is, by equipping school children with the right information and practical experience.
* The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye has commended Anambra State Judiciary for being alive to its responsibility to society. The Commissioner made this remark when informed that a total of 34 Suspects arraigned for Cultism and related offences were remanded on the order of Court. Adeoye observed that what has militated against efforts to curb crime in the past was the ease with which crime suspects find their way back to society to commit more crimes even while trial in previous ones were ongoing.
* Adaora Soludo, daughter of Anambra state governor, Charles Soludo, has said that she left Nigeria because her family received death threats after her father reformed the banking sector. Adaora said the reforms initiated by her father, brought about death threats from some persons, which made her relocate abroad.
ANN recalls that Soludo was appointed the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria in 2004 by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Soludo, in July 2004, increased the minimum capital for banks in Nigeria from N2 billion to N25 billion and gave them until the end of 2005. This caused a lot of ripples in the sector.
* A front-line Agriculturist, Chief Christopher Ibeh, says the just concluded first Anambra State investment summit organized by the Soludo administration is a major springboard towards the speedy industrialization of Anambra State.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the event at the international convention center in Awka, Chief Ibeh said that the crème de la crème of investors and industrialists that attended the summit is a clear indication that Ndi Anambra is committed to developing the state.
* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has accepted the resignation of Mr Ifeatu Onejeme, the Commissioner for Finance.
ANN recalls that Mr Ifeatu Onejeme was appointed Commissioner for Finance by Governor Soludo at the beginning of the administration to help the new government settle in. Mr Ifeatu Onejeme has also previously served as Commissioner during the Obiano’s administration
* Anambra State Disability Rights Commission recently marked its One Year Anniversary, with the group, during the celebration, honouring and recognizing six disability sports medalists and also presenting certificates to about twelve members trained in Information and Communication Technologies.
