* The Standards Organization of Nigeria have awarded the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Program m certificate to twelve deserving companies that have maintained the prestigious awards of quality. The awards presentation ceremony took place at SON Anambra State office, Nnewi.
* Stakeholders in the environment sector have called for stricter measures to control plastic pollution and its growing damage to the environment. The call was made at the ‘Plastic Waste Sustainability Summit’ organized by Anambra State Waste Recyclers Association, ASWRA, in conjunction with the Anambra State Ministry of Environment in Awka.
* Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Anambra chapter has commended the state government lead by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for bringing back the school sports festival after over ten years and urges its sustenance as a pathway to returning Anambra to its days of glory. In a communique from their monthly meeting held on Friday September 15 in Awka, signed by the Anambra SWAN state chapter chairman Mr. Anthony Oji and Mr. Chimezie Anaso the Secretary, stated that Anambra State has recorded a remarkable spike in the level of sports activities in the last one year.
* The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA Mr. Ossy Onuko says the recently held Anambra Investment Summit will trigger rapid economic development of the state.
According to Mr. Onuko, ACTDA under his supervision will continue to live up to its responsibilities at all times and re-echoed his earlier warning against erection of illegal structures, building on water channels.
* Anambra State Police Command wishes to announce the demise of one of its officers, ASP Anthony Ogbodo. According to a release by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, the officer was killed in a tragic vehicular accident involving his motorcycle and a shuttle bus on Saturday, 16th September, 2023. ANN gathered that the driver of the shuttle bus who knocked down the officer had conveyed him to the hospital at Enugwu Ukwu before he gave up the ghost.
* Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET) a foremost citizen stakeholders’ group, has urged Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to commence without further delay, the distribution of palliatives meant to cushion the biting effects of fuel subsidy removal in the State. Leader of the group, Prince Chris Azor, made the call while interacting with newsmen after a stakeholders focused group meeting on strategies to address the sufferings of citizens in the face of current existential challenges.
* The Anambra State Government has debunked the false and malicious claims of a conflict between Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and former Finance Commissioner, Mr. Ifeatu Onejeme, as reason for the recent resignation of the latter.
ANN recalled that Mr. Onejeme previously served as Commissioner during the Obiano’s administration and was appointed Commissioner for Finance by Governor Soludo at the beginning of this administration to help the new government settle in.
* Barring any positive mediation, Tansian University with campuses in Oba and Umunya, Anambra State, may closed down any moment soon over alleged N2 billion debt. A stakeholder in the university, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka disclosed this to reporters. He threatened to sell the institution to recover all the money the university was owing him for using his property- Ranet Industries- at Oba as take off campus.
* Anambra State Government has held capacity building workshop on Procurement Practices for senior officials in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state. According to the MD/CEO of the Anambra State Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, Architect Okey Ezeobi who disclosed this while briefing journalists at the commencement of the training in Awka, said the workshop would enable stakeholders discuss the practices of procurement in the state and proffer innovative and standard ways of improving the processes towards the betterment of the society and eliminate corrupt practices.
* Residents and traders at Ugwuagba Obosi, idemili North local Government Area were full of praises and gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the massive road projects going on at various streets in the area. The roads which are about seven point five kilometers include Rainbow Net, Mgbuka, Amanator, Amaesi and St. Peter’s roads have drainage system on both sides while earth work is on going. Speaking to journalists, the chairman Ugwuagba landlord Association, Chief Chiemelie Nduka highlighted the untold hardship the residents were passing through before on the roads, recounting series of self-help efforts of the residents of the area to ensure that the place is accessible and motorable before the intervention of Governor Soludo which according to him, has given the people a sense of belonging.
