The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Anambra Chapter, has condoled with the National President of the Association, Israel Kemje Benjamin, over the death of his father, Pa Isaiah Boyi Israel. In a condolence message co-signed by the Chairman of the Chapter and  Secretary and made available to newsmen in Awka, Pa Israel died in his country home, Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, at the age of 92.

* The Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria, Awka Diocese held her 2023 Annual Laity Seminar and Fund Raising for the completion of the Laity Secretariat Project at Archbishop A. K. Obiefuna Retreat, Pastoral and Conference Centre,  Okpuno, Awka. The three-day event, was  themed; ”Fraudulent Practice; A Threat to Socio-Economic Development of Our Society”, 

* The people of Umueri in Anambra East Council area have expressed appreciation over the State government’s decision to rename the airport in their Community after Chinụa Achebe. Soludo had during Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary Celebration in Awka, announced that the airport would henceforth be known as, “Chinụa Achebe International Airport, Umueri”. 

Following the announcement, the Traditional Ruler of Umueri, Igwe Sir Ben Emeka through a the Governor Chukwuma Soludo, conveyed the community’s excitement and appreciation over the timely declaration.

* Widows in Anambra state has appealed to Governor Soludo to assist them with funds to start up business for themselves. The appeal was made by Mrs. Eucharia Nzewe, who spoke on behalf of the widows during the official Inauguration of State/Zonal/Council Area Executive Working Team of Royal Ambassadors Charity Home, a non-governmental and non-profit organisation residing in Anambra State.

* It was indeed a remarkable event at College of Nursing Sciences, St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital, Onitsha Anambra State when the College marked her 6th Matriculation and capped 99 students. The ceremony which was held at the College premises attracted the presence of parents and guardians, relatives, well-wishers, priests, and religious, politicians and government functionaries.

* A brand new four bed room bungalow built and duly furnished by one of the illustrious sons of Ukwulu Community in Dunukofia LGA ,Chief Peter Uchenna Ogugua, has been  commissioned and officially handed over to the  benefiting widow, Mrs Beatrice Otiaba Okonkwo of Amagu Village of the Community. Speaking during a brief ceremony to mark the auspicious event, the Traditional Ruler of the Community, Igwe Peter Uyanwa,described the event as very significant in the annals of the Community.

 * Anambra state government will distribute bags of rice to over three hundred thousand households in the state to cushion the effects of the removal of subsidy on petrol. Governor Chukwuma Soludo disclosed this in his address during the celebration of the sixty third independence anniversary of Nigeria at Dunukofia local government headquarters in Ukpo.

* Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on works has expressed satisfaction as construction work on Igwe -Ezechi Okoye road, Ifitedunu in Dunukofia local government area is nearing completion. Committee on works made the observation while oversight the project in line with their constitutional responsibilities.

The committee which spoke through its Chairman, Hon. Emma Nwafor described the job done so far by the construction firm handling the project as very impressive.

 

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has nominated 

Hon. Bervely Ikpeazu Nkemdiche and Okafor Izuchukwu Moses for the post of commissioners to serve in Anambra State government. Governor Soludo in a letter addressed to the Anambra state house of assembly demanded for comfirmation of the two nominees.

* No fewer than one hundred Corps Members serving in Anambra State will be included in the state government’s one youth two skills empowerment programme. This was made known by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon Patrick Agha Mba, the Governor charged the Corps Members to execute their primary assignments with commitment, dedication and  patriotism, so as to contribute meaningfully to the development and growth of the state.

* The Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka, the State capital, has restrained the Inspector-General of Police (IG), the Director of Directorate of State Services (DSS), Anambra State and the Permanent Secretary Anambra State Ministry of Commerce and Trade, Mr. Chinedu Ike, from taking any action in any subject matter of the suit pending the determination of substantive motion on notice.

In the suit, the presiding Judge, Justice Ike Ogu, also directed one Nwadibia Jideofor, Commander, Electronics Market Onitsha, to stay action in connection with the subject matter of the suit until the determination of the substantive motion on notice.
