* Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, ASHC, has joined the global community in commemorating World Habitat Day 2023. The day was set aside by the United Nations to call attention to and reflect on the state of towns and cities and the basic right of all to adequate shelter.
* A state High Court No. 1 sitting in Nnewi, Anambra State, presided over by His Lordship, Justice C.N. Mbonu-Nwenyi, has adjourned further hearing till Friday, October 27, 2023, in a criminal charge bothering on kidnapping, preferred against two suspects, Jude Chukwudi Odimegwu and Nwokolo Chukwudi Maxwell.
The suspects are standing trial for the alleged kidnapping of the Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2021 Anambra governorship election, Obiorah Agbasimalo.
* The Lady knights of St Christopher, Diocese on the Niger, discreetly put their names in the hall of fame as they handed over a ₦ 38.9m university gatehouse to the Diocese on the Niger, Anglican Communion. The structure, the second gatehouse at the University on the Niger, Umunya, was dedicated by the Diocesan, the Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo, amid thunderous jubilations and long chains of accolades.
* The Anambra State Football Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Anambra State Association of Town Unions and Anambra State Sports Development Commission are to commence community football competition called Solution Community Shield Championship. The football tournament which will officially take off on 8th October this year with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo performing the ceremonial kickoff at Awka Township Stadium, is expected to help harness raw talents from the grassroots and also help catapult them to stardom. The Solution Community Shield Championship which is the first of its kind in the annals of the state, will feature teams from the 179 communities of the 21 local government areas of the state.Â
* Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Anambra state council lead by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD in partnership with Angel Network News (ANN) a foreign based media organization holds congress/security summit. The event which was held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, NUJ Secretariat Complex, Awka on Thursday October 5, 2023 had stakeholders in the security sector and top media executive in attendance.
* Security operatives have arrested Mrs. Theresa Ikwoba of Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, for allegedly tormenting his brother’s widow, to the extent of stabbing her several times and also destroying her property.
ANN gathered that the suspect, who was previously married, divorced her husband and returned to his father’s house, shortly after which she began to unleash unwarranted oppression on the widow, Mrs. Ogochukwu Ikwoba and her two children, after the demise of her brother (the widow’s husband).
* The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2021 Anambra election, Mr Val Ozigbo, has rejected the chieftaincy title offered to him by the people of Anaocha local government area of Anambra State following alleged politicization of the issue.
Ozigbo, who was the special adviser to Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the February 25 election during the campaigns, was to be conferred with the title of ‘Enyi Oma Anaocha’ ( good friend of Anaocha) by the traditional rulers of the area this weekend and arrangements for the event had already gone far before the cancellation.
* The Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu has charged Principals to be prudent with the five-thousand-naira school fees approved by the state government for senior secondary school one to three. The Chairman gave the charge while addressing Principals of Secondary Schools in Anambra State during the PPSSC management meeting with the principals of public and public mission schools held at Catholic Girls’ Secondary School, Ozubulu.
Ikediugwu stressed the need for Principals to adhere to the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directives on free education and warned that the Governor is ready to dismiss any Principal that disobeys the free education policy.
* Anambra State commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon Ify Obinabo has handed over the founder of Arrows of God Community Children’s Home, Nkwelle 33, Rev D.C Ogo to men of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). Rev Ogo was found to have been involved in illegal adoption, where she allegedly gave away children in her orphanage homes to persons seeking for children, in exchange for money. The orphanage was months back sealed, after revelations contained in an investigative report, which indicted the home.
