* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has assured that the ongoing Ekwulọbịa flyover project and adjourning roads will change the status of the city when completed. Soludo gave the assurance during a Holy Mass held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Church, Ekwulobia in honour of the Chief Executive Officer of JEZCO Group, Chief Joseph Okafor, for his sixty-ninth (69th) birthday celebration. The occasion was also used to commemorate the papal investiture of Chief Okafor as well as his late parents, Mr. Julius Okafor and Mrs. Josephine Akueju Okafor.

* Flood looms in Anambra State before the end of this year, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said. This is because of the release of water from the Lagdo Dam by the Cameroonian authorities. NEMA said nine states in Nigeria could be affected by this development expected to last till the end of this month.

* Some residents of Awka Community within the capital territory have abandoned their homes over the menace of erosion. Residents of the area, during a meeting to assess the level of damage already caused by the menace, begged the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to come to their rescue. The gully which has eaten up a large portion of land in Amachalla Village is still threatening more buildings, while many residents of the area have abandoned their property.

* Arrangements have been concluded to roll out the second phase of 1 Youth, 2 Skills Acquisition Programme in an effort towards realizing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of creating 1,000 millionaires annually in Anambra State.

The State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Aghadinuno Mbah, gave the hint in an interview with the press in his office. Mr Mbah said the pilot phase of the programme which commenced in November 2022, had been concluded in July 2023 and the trainees would be given seed money by the state government anytime from now for them to kick start their various businesses.

* The Diocese of Aguata Anglican Communion Bishop’s wife Mrs Chinyere Ezeofor surprises Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home Agulu with donations. The excited children couldn’t contain their joy as they came back from school and found the items donated to them by Mrs Ezeofor.

* Anambra State Traders Sports Competition scheduled to commence on October 18, 2023 is set to kick Off of 2023 as the 82 markets which registered to take part now know their opponents. ANN gathered that the draws which was held for the five events that would feature in the competition including football, Tennis, Table Tennis, Draught and Ncho. Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission and Humphrey Anuna, President General of Anambra State Amalgamated Market Traders Association (ASMATA) were on ground to supervise the exercise.

* The Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioners for Health, Youth Information, Technology and Creative Economy and other relevant agencies to embark on a continuous sensitisation programme on the adverse effects of hard drugs. The member representing Njikoka two constituency Hon. Jude Akpua in his submission stated that hard drugs are substances that are seen as more potent and toxic, both physically, mentally and highly addictive which are usually injectable, inhaled and ingested causing the most damages to organs and natural functions in the shortest amount of time. 

* Following his emergence as the most popular nominee in the 2023 edition of NUJ Anambra State Man of The Year, the NUJ has presented HRH Igwe (Pharm) Alex Uzo Onyido, Ezechuamagha of Ogidi Kingdom, with the letter of nomination. While receiving the nomination letter at his Ogidi Pharmaceutical firm head office, Igwe Onyido, who was beaming  with joy, described his nomination as one of the greatest honours he has received in recent times.

* The Archdeacon of Awka Archdeaconry and Vicar, All Saints Anglican Church, Amenyi, Venerable David Ezeobi, has enjoined Christians to be obedient to God’s words and invest in his vineyard. Venerable Ezeobi who stated this in a sermon said that anyone who walks and works according to God’s instructions, never makes mistake in life rather progresses and does exploits.

* The Afiaolu Nnobi 2023 football tournament sponsored by Lovebite Foods and Beverages has ended with Ngo Village clinching the trophy.

The final football match between Ebenesi and Ngo villages of Nnobi ended in one-one after the first and second half of the game. The football match which ended with a penalty shootout between the two teams saw Ngo scoring six goals while Ebenesi scored four goals.
