* Women have been advised to always strive to be self-reliant and impactful in the society rather than idly waiting for assistance or to be regularly empowered. Speakers at a one-day capacity building summit organized for women leaders of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, gave the advice while addressing the participants. Themed “Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity: Picture It”, the event, which held in Awka on Saturday, attracted women leaders of APGA from all the wards in Awka South.
* Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Anambra State Council on Saturday October 28th visited and donated items and cash to Sickle Cell Orphanege Home, Agulu in Anaocha local government area and also Faith Community Children’s Home (Diocess of Awka, Anglican Communion). Speaking at the Orphanege homes, the NUJ Press Week Committee Secretary, Comrade Chigozie Chukwuleta said the visit is part of the activities in celebrating the annual press week of the union. Receiving the gifts and cash, the national cordinator of Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder (APLSCD) Mrs. Aisha Edward-Maduagwu commended NUJ for always supporting the ophanage.
* Five thousand beneficiaries have graduated in the first batch of 1 Youth 2 Skills empowerment programme organized by the Anambra state government. Speaking at the event held at the International Convention Center, Awka during the graduation ceremony on Friday Governor Chukwuma Soludo revealed the plans his administration has to turn Anambra State into the biggest digital skills hub in Nigeria and Sub Saharan Africa where a greater percentage of Anambra youths will have employable and exportable tech skills. Governor Soludo emphasized that the agenda is to raise smart entrepreneurs who posses two skills and people that will build businesses that will create jobs.
* An All Progressives Grand Alliance chieftain from Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, Chief Ifeanyi Chinweze has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his developmental strides in the state. Speaking to newsmen in Awka, Chief Chinweze said that Governor Soludo has brought back innovation and workable ideas which had been lacking in governance, thereby entrenching sanity into the sanity.
* A Muslim community in Anambra has prayed for a more united and progressive Nigeria. The Muslim faithful made the call after Jumaat prayer at Rojenny Central Mosque, Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra state on Friday. Alhaji Mohammed Imam, Chief Imam of Rojenny Central Mosque, Oba and prominent indigenes of Oba, Obosi and Ichi communities sued for religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence in Nigeria among all tribes and political divides
* The Deputy Governor of Anambra State Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim says community service is crucial and highly needed in the society owing to the present economic reality in the world especially in Nigeria. The Deputy Governor stated this when Members of Rotary International District 9142 paid him a courtesy visit in Awka. Dr Ibezim, who emphasized the need for the wealthy to always assist the downtrodden, described Rotary International as a charity organization committed to putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged.
* Rangers International came from behind to defeat Kano pillars 4:1 at their adopted home ground in Awka, Anambra state capital. ANN reports that despite missing the services of midfielders Naziru Auwalu, Kalu Nweke and Chinemerem Ugwueze, Rangers dominated the game especially at the second half.
* A herbalist whose identity is yet to be unraveled is currently on the run in Anambra State for reportedly stealing a buried corpse and taking it to his shrine. The incident happened at Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State, we are the herbalist was said to have connived with the brother-in-law of the deceased to exhume her corpse from her grave.
It would be recalled that a lady identified as Nkechi Ofili recently cried to a popular pastor, Evangelist Ebuka Obi of the Zion Ministry for his intervention after she saw a viral video of her sisters of being dragged to shrine.
* Nigeria Union of Journalist Anambra Chapter has frowned at the constant abandonment of filled waste bins noticed around some places in the State and encouraged quick evacuation to avoid pollution leading to health hazards. The union at there October Congress commended the efforts of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA led by Chief Ossy Onuko in its determined efforts to keep the State clean and urged them to step up the tempo.
