Umuoji Youths Storm Anambra Govt House In Protest Over Killng Of President-General ‘Onyima

The youths of of Umuoji in Idemili North Council Area embarked on a peaceful demonstration at the Anambra State Government House, Awka, calling for justice be served to the killers of their late President-General, Chief Silas Onyima.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the group who came with chants, were carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “Delayed Justice is justice denied”, “Injustice to one is injustice to all”, “Mr Governor, kindly prevail on the police to expedite action”, among others.

The National Youth Leader of Umuoji community Mr. Chudi Chukelu, who expressed heaviness of heart over the unfortunate incident, described the late Chief Onyima as one who has attracted many developments to Umuoji.

Mr. Chukelu, who also described Chief Onyima as father to Umuoji youths, revealed that youths were on the verge of becoming violent before they eventually embarked on the visit, pleading with the government not to forsake them.

Responding, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi said that what happened in Umuoji affected everyone, including the state government because the late Chief Onyima was dutifully offering his services before his life was cut off.

Ezeajughi pointed out that the matter is still under investigation, adding that those arrested are still in custody, and stated that the government is committed to working with the police to ensure that justice is served.

The Chief of Staff recalled that to demonstrate empathy, the Governor led a one-minute silence session in honour of the late President-General during one of the State Executive Council, SEC, meetings.

Mr. Ezeajughi stressed that the state government does not want a repeat of such ugly incidents in the state, promising to convey the message of Umuoji youths to the Governor.

National President of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo, called for calm until the police conclude investigation into the matter, while the ASATU Youth 

President, Comrade Ken Okoli, advised everyone to be vigilant of their immediate environment to avoid such death, and called on the people to make sure that they know those living in their neighbourhood, emphasizing that ASATU family is fully interested in seeing the matter to logical conclusion.
