In an interview with Nigerian news station AriseNewsTV, the First Lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu, expressed contentious views about the labor philosophies of Nigerians. Her opinion was concentrated on the current emigration epidemic (commonly known as Japa) afflicting the country. Her opinion has since sparked conversations on social media, since the released of the viral clip.
The wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has emphasized yet again the need for Nigerians to embrace an agro-based economy, as reported by AriseNews.
During the meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, in her office at the State House, Abuja, she asserted that agriculture was the key to bolstering the economy, especially considering what the president’s renewed hope initiatives stand for.
“The President has made the right decisions. These decisions will help us build a Nigeria that is more respected. We should be more accountable as a people as regards our resources,” she said.
However, it is a video of her discussing the emigration situation in Nigeria, which has now gone viral that has piqued people’s interest. In the video, she voiced her dissatisfaction with the rate at which Nigerians are fleeing the nation, claiming that occupations that Nigerians have refused to undertake in their own country, they gladly do overseas.

She began by pointing out that Nigerians may help one another by utilizing the monies spent on parties to instead assist each other.
“Nigerians we can help each other. The rate we are doing parties, why don’t we use the money to help your neighbor, until we can get on our feet,” she said. “It’s not that government has to give food to everybody,” she added.
“Even all those people that go to Japa, they go there what work are you going to do? Work that you refuse to do at home, where you have loved ones, you end up going to do them. Even with all their education, they are driving cabs, but they won’t drive cabs here,” she stated.
Her opinion has been a bone of contention since the viral clip surfaced.
Reactions to the First Lady’s opinions
“Work they refused to do in Nigeria, they are doing it outside?”
The minimum wage in the UK is £10.56/Hour.
If a cleaner cleans for 10 hours in a day, he earns around £100+. £100 is around N200k+ in Naira. How much are cleaners paid in Nigeria, Ma? Many workers in Nigeria don’t…— 👑 Pharaoh 👑 🇳🇬 🇬🇧 (@Ugochukwu_96) March 21, 2024
These jobs pay them well enough to earn more and survive better.
Why won’t they? When in Nigeria such jobs are not even worth up to 100k per month. Nigeria is a terrible zoo.

is more informative and is more composed and sophisticated compared to the previous office holders. The last time I observed such display of etiquette & decorum coming from that office was during Maryam Abatcha and Maryam Babagida days. pic.twitter.com/GWmOoCgsQR

Remi Tinubu is nothing to the constitution apart from being a citizen, her office has no place in the constitution so, why speaking always?
