* Acting Vice-Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu has been honored with a merit award from the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS). The award was presented to Professor Ikechebelu during a courtesy visit by members of the Institute to his office. Mr. Emma Afam Nwobu, the State Chairman of NIQS, stated that the award recognizes Professor Ikechebelu’s significant contributions to human development and the advancement of healthcare in Anambra State and Nigeria. Highlighting the purpose of the visit, HRH Igwe C.C. Agbala, the traditional ruler of Uke and a member of the Institute, mentioned that the delegation aimed to engage with the Vice-Chancellor and offer collaborative insights to enhance the field of Quantity Surveying at the university.

* The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Development Control Unit has taken decisive action to evacuate occupants from a dangerously dilapidated building in Ifite Awka, aiming to forestall the imminent danger posed by the property to the occupants. The twin structure, located at Dubai Lodge on Five Decking Street, Ifite primarily houses Students, shows severe signs of distress with parts already cracking. Addressing occupants of the structure, the Deputy commander of ACTDA Development Control Unit Mr. Ukachukwu Okonkwo informed them that the major aim of the agency was to safeguard lives, stated that the building appears to be on the brink of collapse. Okonkwo noted that despite receiving eviction notices from the landlord, the occupants had refused to vacate the premises hence the  ACTDA’s intervention, aiming to avert any potential tragedy from the imminent collapse.

* Association of Catholic Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (ACMPN) have urged Federal and State Governments to evolve a better working environment for health workers. ACMPN made the call at its 18th Annual Conference and General Meeting held in Nnewi, Anambra state.
The theme of the conference was “Integrating Spirituality Into Practice: Exploring Holistic Approach and Recognising the Spiritual Nature of Man ”.
National President of ACMPN, Dr Matthew Ashikemi said Nigerian Medical Practitioners were operating under unfavorable conditions which need urgent attention.

*  Women from the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, gathered at Saint Mary’s Church, Ogbunka, in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, to cry out to God over the numerous challenges facing the country. The 19th Aguata Diocesan Women’s Conference, organized by the Women’s Ministry of the Diocese, provided a platform for the women to lament the harsh realities of life in Nigeria. Led by Mrs. Success Iwuagwu in prayers, the women poured out their hearts in fervent prayers, seeking God’s intervention in the midst of hardship, insecurity, banditry, unemployment, and high electricity tariffs.

* One of the Nigerian highlife masters, Prince Chijioke Mbanefo, has unveiled a foundation known as the “Prince Chijioke Mbanefo Charity Foundation” in Anambra State. The official unveiling took place at his country home, Atani, in the Ogbaru local government area of the state recently. Speaking shortly after the unveiling, the highlife guru said the aim is geared towards taking care of widows, orphans, and the less privileged in Nigeria. According to him, he resolved to set up the foundation as a way of giving back to society, which has been very appreciative of his efforts and contributions to society. He added that the essence of the foundation was to ensure that widows, orphans, and the less privileged in the country receive succour from him from time to time.

* The Anambra State Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives has denied reports that they have endorsed Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s bid for a second term in office. In a statement signed by the Leader of the Caucus, Hon.

Afam Victor Ogene, the lawmakers described the reports as “wild rumours.” According to Ogene, the Caucus paid a courtesy visit to Governor Soludo at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia to discuss development synergy for the state’s overall interest. He emphasized that the visit was focused on forging a collaboration between the Executive and Legislative arms, and did not involve any discussions on personal or party aspirations.

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, has explained the reasons behind the delay in reconstructing the failed road leading to the State Ministry of Works Headquarters in Awka, popularly known as Works Road.
Engr. Okoma acknowledged his Ministry’s awareness of the condition of the road and noted that it would surely be addressed. When asked why the government has left it till this moment, the Commissioner emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to prioritizing the infrastructural needs of communities in more dire conditions before addressing their own infrastructural challenges.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka recently paid a homage to the traditional ruler of Abacha, His Royal Majesty Igwe Godwin Nwabunwanne Odiegwu.
Speaking during the visit to Igwe Abacha, Chief Nkwoka noted that he was in the Royal Father’s palace to pay him homage and as well solicit support. He called for concerted efforts towards implementing and domesticating Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda in Idemili North, saying that with individual and collective support the aims and objections of the State’s Number One Citizen would be achieved.

* National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has called on community and opinion leaders, women and youths to support proactive measures to avert negative impacts of flood during the rainy season. Director-General, NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar made the call at the flag-off of the 2024 Flood Early Warnings Sensitisation Exercise in Awka, Anambra State. The consultation and sensitisation programme was organised in collaboration with the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

* Mater Amabilis Secondary School Umuoji in Idemili North Local Government Area, has emerged winner of the tenth edition of the Anambra State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Lady Victoria Chito Onyido annual Quiz competition being sponsored by the Traditional Ruler of Ogidi, Igwe Alexander Onyido.The school won in the quiz competition haven defeated three other secondary schools that made it to the Grand finale organized at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka by Anambra State NDLEA in collaboration with the University. The three students that won the competition for Mater Amabilis Secondary School smiled home with one laptop each, cash prizes, offset of their WAEC, NECO and Jamb examination fees, and cheque for one hundred and twenty-two thousand naira for the school.
