* Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik), Prof Carol Arinze-Umobi has paid an unscheduled visit to the university’s hostels. During her tour of the hostels, which included Chief Stella Okoli and Prof. Dora Akunyili Hostel, Basil Oli Hostel, Boys Hostel, Oby Ezekwesili Hostel, and Elmada Hostel, Prof Arinze-Umobi interacted with students, listening attentively to their concerns and grievances. The visit, which took students by surprise, was aimed at gaining firsthand insight into the conditions of the university-owned hostels and engaging directly with the students.

* The National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpudo says Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s infrastructural development has continued to place the state on the limelight and needs strong support for him to succeed in making  Anambra an investors’ hub, a livable and a prosperous homeland. Akpudo stated this at ASATU Hall, Government House Awka during the inaugration of Elders Council of the Association of Non Indigenes in Anambra State. 

* Media Practitioners have been urged to sustain to their efforts towards promoting leadership accountability and economic growth leveraging on investigation and provisions of freedom of Information Act. Stakeholders in Southeast region disclosed this at the 2024 Accountability Conference organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council. The keynote speaker at the programme and professor in the department of Fine and Applied Arts, faculty of Environmental Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Clifford Ezekwe Nwanna, urged both the media and masses to play their roles through what he termed three revolutions such as ethical, educationed and judicial offer.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia local Government, C.C Ozumba has rewarded three outstanding staff members and two active casual workers for their exceptional punctuality and commitment to duty. The council Boss rewarded the winners in fulfilment of

the promise he made to the workers during his interactive session with them immediately after his appointment and inauguration.

* The Chairman, Anambra State Local Government Service Commission, Barr. Vincent Ifeanyi Ezeaka says corruption in Nigeria has become something everyone should stand up to fight as many have gone but no longer relevant in solving Nigeria problems. Ezeaka in his remarks in an event organized by NUJ Anambra Council recently said “It has come to a level where even the primary school pupils are corrupt as parents even pay heavily to secure admissions for their children, among other things. We need to take the fight against corruption down to families, individuals, students and so on. 

*Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has commenced massive rehabilitation work on the failed portion of the Esther Obiakor Road, one of the ever-busy roads in the capital city.

Speaking with newsmen, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, Hon. Ossy Onuko, elaborated on the project’s importance, noting that the rehabilitation of is critical, especially due to its strategic location and the volume of traffic it handles daily. According to him, the road serves as a crucial link for commuters, businesses, residences, and emergency services, making its rehabilitation very imperative. 

* Advocacy for improved funding and greater commitment to tuberculosis response anchored by a Non-Governmental Organization, Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre, has been taken to Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, (ASHIA).

During the meeting, GPSDC’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Ngozi Onwubuya, stressed the need for intentional measures to bridge the funding gap especially now that donors who fund greater percentage of TB intervention, are getting fatigued.

* The Nigeria Unuon of Journalists (NUJ) has conferred an award of Patronship on the President General of Urum Development Unuon, Chief Hon. Aloysius Tabansi Nwachinaemelu Na Urum. United Nation Peace Ambassador. The award was presented  to Tabansi during the NUJ 2024 Patrons and Veterans Day and Accountability Conference held at the Godwin Ezemo Press Centre, Awka.

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abambra state Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu Phd while presenting the award to the President General, described him as a selfless leader who is compassionate and works for the interest of the people. 

* The leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for coming up with a well thought-out agricultural initiative targeted at ending hunger in the state, saying that it’s a welcome development. Chairman of the party in the LGA, Hon. James Onwuka, and the secretary, Chief Amaechi Obiesili, at the flag off ceremony of the Sustainable Action Against Hunger held at a farmland along the newly constructed Amansea-Ndiukwuenu Road, said that the initiative was timely as it came at a time when many Nigerians were battling with hunger. 

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has launched the “Farm To Feed Campaign” initiative at a farm in Amansea, Awka North local government area. Soludo while performing the function, revealed that the initiative is one of the positive steps to move the state and country forward. The Governor recalled that his administration has already distributed over one million palm and coconut seedlings, with a target of ten million seedlings before the end of his government.
