* Anambra State Football Association Chairman General Chikelue Iloenyosi commend and appreciate all FA Chairmen of the Country for their condolence visit to commiserate with Anambra State Football Association for the loss of the former Chairman Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah. Iloenyosi while speaking during the visit, express happiness over the way all the FA Chairmen came to mourn with Anambra FA, stating that it shows solidarity and care, he also Pray that such tragedy will not befall the football community again.
* The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Anambra Branch has called for the immediate and unconditional release of their member, Dr. Steven Ezeh who was kidnapped by yet to be identified persons.
Ezeh, a private practitioner in Ihiala was abducted at his residence in Umunnamehi Village, Ihiala, Ihiala Local Government Area on August 15, 2024. The NMA which met an emergency general meeting on Monday issued a 48 hour ultimatum for the release of Ezeh or they withdraw their services across the state afterwards.
* A coalition of Civil Society Networks on AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria in Anambra state has called for a separate funding of tuberculosis (TB) intervention programs in the state. The State Advocacy Team (SAT) of the group made the call in Awka during a meeting with Dr Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu, the manager of Anambra State Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control. They said that TB is a major public health concern in Anambra and that dedicated financial resources are needed to effectively combat the disease.
* Igwe Godwin Ezeadusionu Ezekunie Ezeilo, the Obu Nanka community have celebrated this year’s new yam festival in grand style. Highlights of the event included the cutting of a roasted yam by the Igwe and the rituals thereof. Another interesting part was the handing over of three new motorcycles donated by Chief Kofi Obijiofor, Onowu Nanka, as he did the previous years, to the best three farmers with the biggest and heaviest weighed yams.
* There was wailing in Onitsha as the corpse of ABK Offiah, an aide to Anambra commissioner for Youths Development, Hon Patrick Aghamba, who was killed on his way to Abuja returned to Onitsha. The corpse of Offiah, a lawyer from Onitsha, who holds the traditional title of Kpajiego, which was returned, elicited wailing from indigenes. The victim was also said to be a youth leader. A video on social media showed the moment an ambulance arrived Onitsha with Offiah’s corpse, leaving everyone devastated.
* Chairman of Three-Man Administration of Electronics Dealers Association, Onitsha, Chief Donatus Obi, with his two other members, Mr. Benjamin Anyanwu and Mr. Nnaemeka Nwanna and their thugs obstructed the execution of judgment of an Anambra High Court sitting in Atani which asked the registered Board of Trustees (BoT) of the association to take over the leadership of market. The Court had ordered Obi led Three -Man Administrstor to limit themselves to the collection of government revenues which are tax and development levy.
* The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has denied recognition to the Chief Edozie Njoku-led faction. Despite official notifications, Njoku’s representatives were forcibly prevented from entering a meeting at the ANSIEC Secretariat in Awka, Anambra State. The factional National Working Committee (NWC) of APGA, led by Okoro Benedict, condemned the incident during a visit to Anambra State.
* Team Make Ogbunike Great (TMOG), has called on the Anambra State Government to visit Ogbunike Cave and kick-start a project on the site. Dr. Chuma-Odili Harris Udokamma while speaking on behalf of TMOG, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Awka, informed that Ogbunike Cave was in dire need of attention. Dr.
Udokamma, a renowned Media practitioner and social rights activist, together with a high-power delegation of traditional redcap Chiefs who are key Stakeholders of Team Make Ogbunike Great (TMOG) while acknowledging Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his leadership, also sought his support for the TMOG’s programmes on health, education, culture, and road infrastructures in the Ogbunike community.
* The member representing Anambra East/Anambra West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Peter Udogala Anekwe, has condole with the chairman of Labour Party in Anambra State, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh over the death of his son. Speaking during the condolence visit to the family, Hon Anekwe told Chief Emeh that death was a supreme decision from God Almighty which according to him man lacks the ability to question.
* A Civil Society organisation, Anambra State TB Network has appealed to the state government to take advantage of existing community structures to boost its response to tuberculosis. The State Coordinator of the network, Ifeyinwa Unachukwu gave the suggestion during a meeting with artisans drawn from various markets and communities in the state, held under the Fund TB project supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Through the Palladium Group. According to Unachukwu, “Government should use existing community structures such as age grades, Old Boys/Girls, various wings of ASATU etc to raise fund for TB”.
