* The Representative of Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, has strongly denounced the brutal attack on the Atani headquarters of Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra State.
He described the incident as “utterly horrendous, mindless, and worrisome”.
In a statement issued in Awka, the state capital, Rep Afam Victor Ogene expressed deep concern and condemnation over the senseless violence in Ogbaru Local Government Area. He urged the Anambra State Government and security agencies to take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of the people.
* Chinedu Nelson Orjiakor, candidate of the Labour Party for the September 28 Anambra State Local Government Election has declared that he is coming to rescue Ihiala Local Government Area from bondage and captivity of cabals strangulating the council area.
Orjiakor while speaking recently also appealed to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to allow Ihiala people choose a Chairman that would be accountable to the people and not a stooge that would be accountable to cabals only.
He said Ihiala has been under siege by hoodlums for six years yet no meaningful efforts were made by successive administrations to tackle insecurity and enthrone a tranquil atmosphere in the council area.
* The President General (PG) of Achala Improvement Union, Comrade Nnamdi Ikwunne has joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), with over one hundred indigenes of the community.
The ceremony which took place at his compound in Achala was witnessed by members of APGA from all the electoral wards in Awka North local government area and State Executive members of the party.
While welcoming Ikwunne into APGA family, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Political Matters, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu lauded the PG for taking the right decision by joining APGA, which he said is founded on the doctrine of love, saying that his entry into the party will not only widen the membership of the party but will also bring prospects to the people of Achala community.
* The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Awka branch has elected Engr. Mrs Oluchi Maryjane Okoli, as it first female Chairman in 33 years of existence.
Mrs. Okoli was elected alongside her new executive members shortly after the NSE’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at Gelly’s Garden conference hall Awka, at the weekend.
The newly elected leadership is expected to pilot the affairs of the body for a period of two years.
* The maiden Southeast Photography Exhibition has been held in Awka at the weekend as image makers urged to master the skill of virtuality by creating a niche for themselves.
The Photography Exhibition entitled “The Forgotten Country” was organised by Natesa Consulting, a strategic communication and public relations firm in collaboration with Anambra government.
A foremost Nigerian creative photographer, Kelechi Amadi-Obi in his keynote address during the event held at at the International Convention Center, Awka, said peception is reality which is majorly through virtuality.
Amadi-Obi, a renowned painter and artist stated that photography is rewarding and unlimited. He urged image makers to study the copyright act so as to understand how it works.
* The Anambra State government has vowed to severely deal with any principal that allows the premises of their school to be used as venue for wedding reception, and other forms of public social gatherings unrelated to education henceforth.
Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh gave the warning in a statement issued through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu.
The Commissioner further explained that the reason for the ban is to protect school premises and infrastructure from being messed up, as has been the case.
* Association of Radio and Television Technicians in Anambra State (ARTAS), Onitsha branch have sought Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s intervention to release their detained members and reopen their market closed down since June 2024.
According to the President of ARTAS, Chief Engr. Sabastine Ebilite, not less than ten members of the association, including a nursing mother have been incarcerated by the police after been handed over to by the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ọcha Brigade).
Ebilite, while addressing a press conference at Onistha, gave the names of those currently cooling at Awkzu Extension of the Police CID and other police formations to include his Vice Chairman, Chief Isreal Chukwudi, Anayo Ogbonna, Levi Manulu, Ebele Okolo (nursing mother), Master Chigozie Nwaeze (son of Chief Eloka Nnoso, their patron).
* It was a historic and colorful moment of jubilation in Awka, as the Anambra State Chapter of the Immigration Officers Wives Association (IMMOWA) became officially inaugurated in the state.
The Association, made up of the wives of officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has branches in different parts of the state and has been operating in Anambra State for years, without an official inauguration until now.
However, with the arrival of the 20th Comptroller of Immigration Service (CIS) in the state, CIS Godwin Ndubuisi Nzeribe, and his wife, Mrs. Juliet Nzeribe, the tone was set for the official inauguration of the association, which took place recently at the State Headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Awka.
Inaugurating the Association, the National Chairperson of IMMOWA, Mrs. Eucharia Dike, represented by the National Secretary, Mrs. Elizabeth Kure, expressed her delight at the successful inauguration, noting that this marks a significant milestone in the history of the Association in Anambra State.
* Ogbako Umunwaanyi Igbo World Wide (OUIWF) has given free medical treatment to widows and vulnerable children in Nnewi, Anambra State and environs, empowered widows with material things and cash to add to their businesses.
The forum which was founded by Eziada Ifeoma Nwadike disclosed that it had helped a lot of Igbo women across the country to build their homes.
The occasion had in attendance Obi of Nnewichi, Obi George Onyekaba Obidiugwu and coordinators across Nigeria.
* Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare has reunited an eleven-year-old girl with her Liberian mother in Obosi, Idemili North local government area.
The rescue was carried out after Majoe Angel Kiazolu Andrews, a Liberian and the mother of the eleven-year-old girl, reported the matter to the Ministry.
According to Mrs. Andrews, she has been separated from her daughter for about five years though she normally speaks with her on phone but for five months she has been denied access to her daughter and all communications seized.
She explained that she was in relationship with a man from Obosi who later passed on and part of the agreement she had with the mother-in-law is to allow her to be with the daughter as a means of staying close to her deceased son but will always release her whenever the need be.
