* A middle aged man, Kenneth Ifeakandu has made history in Obeledu community in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State following his winning of N500,000 for harvesting 95kg yam in the community.
Yam competition was part of the new yam festival for the 2024 edition of Obeledu’s new yam festival.
Ifeakandu, a native of Okofia village said the monetary prize won for producing the heaviest yam would be invested in his farm for greater yield next year.
“The prize money is a morale booster to invest more into agriculture, I will expand my scope and return here next year by the grace of God with super huge harvests to show my gratitude to God,” he said.
* The attention of Anambra State Government has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous persons who have continued to deceive unsuspecting members of the public to purchase parcels of land within the World Bank Rice Project, Ufuma, claiming that it belongs to them
According to a notice issued by the Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Lands, Mrs Nkiru Mokwe, Esq on behalf of the commissioner, the general public are advised to be wary of the activities of land grabebrs or any purported claim or release of the World Bank Rice Project, Ufuma, because the land belongs to the State Government.
“Anyone who wants to transact on any Government land or any land in the state should visit Ministry of Lands and conduct an official search to ascertain the true position of the property”.
* The Justice, Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC) of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Anambra State, has flagged off it 2024 JDPC week and fund-raising campaign to empowers less privilege people in the state.
The flagged off ceremony with the Theme: “Economic Empowerment and Capacity Strengthening for Self-reliance” took place at the Asumpta Catholic Church Agulu, in Anaocha LGA.
The JDPC Director, Catholic Diocese of Awka, Rev. Fr Levi Ndubuisi Ukor, in his speech shortly after the flagged off, said the fund when realized will be judiciously distributed to the less privilege people, particularly, for those living at the rural areas in the state.
* Solution Integrated Team, an affiliate of Association of Anambra State Integrated Indigenes (ASAII) has perfected plans to embark on grassroots rally in the 21 local government areas of the state ahead of September 28 local government elections in the state.
The National President of the Association in Nigeria, Hon. Ferguson Ogbonnaya Okpara disclosed this when he led some top ranking officers of the association to a familiarization tour on the Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area in his office at Abagana.
Okpara, who was a one time, National Youth Leader of APGA in the country said the rally was targeted at mobilizing eligible voters for All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the polls.
* Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed at Ahịa Ekwe Building Materials market, Ogidi/Ogbunike, Idemili North/Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, following the submerging of the market by flood.
Narrating their ordeal, one of the victims, Okechukwu Edwin, told newsmen that the flood which was ocassioned by a heavy downpour, came from Ogidi and Ogbunike axis.
Reacting, Chairman of the market, Hon. Adinnu Onyechi described the flooding as natural disaster which occurred annually, even as he decried the magnitude of the damages on the goods.
* Further to the approval given to Five Miners by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to commence operation, other prospective Miners are once again invited to come and complete their Registration which will include evidence of their PAYE taxes; workers nominal rolls, their designations and salaries; evidence of registration with Anambra Internal Revenue Service and National Identification Numbers.

Anambra State, it is Government’s wish that all Miners should resume their legitimate operations immediately but this must be based on the new parameters and standards stipulated by the Anambra State Government Mining Reforms Committee.
Anybody/Firm found operating without compliance with the new requirements and approval from the Governor of Anambra State will be promptly stopped, arrested and prosecuted.
* A group, Anambra Security Network (ASN) has decried what it described as poor pay, of men of Anambra Vigilante Service which it blamed on the increasing security lapses in the State.
In a statement signed by its President, Col. Jude Obi Rtd, the group called on the Anambra State Government and wealthy Anambrarians to encourage the members of AVG by paying them good salary.
According to the group, presently AVG operatives are paid N100, 000 each, which they claimed is extremely too small, considering the harsh economic situation of the country and the risk associated with their job.
* As part of measures by the Anambra State Government to revamp and make use of solid minerals in the state for revenue generation, the Anambra State Executive Council has approved the reactivation, expansion and early commissioning of the Kaolin Processing Plant at Ukpor, by the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited.
Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited (ANSMDCL), Prof.Charles Ononuju Ofoegbu stated that the project will take advantage of the huge deposits of Kaolin in Anambra State with emphasis on downstream value addition on products for both export and local use.
He said that the project, which started as Pilot Processing Plant designed for Ukpor, by the Federal Government has now been transferred to the state with Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company having the mandate to not only complete the plant but to expand and commercialise it.
* Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, Representative of Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Anambra State, has appointed 70 Constituency aides across Ogbaruland. The appointees comprise Advisers, Special Assistants, Executive Assistants, and others.
The appointment letters, signed by Mr. Chinedum Uwolloh, Chief-of-Staff to Hon. Ogene, outlined the aides’ responsibilities:
“Assist the office of Hon. Ogene in achieving its core objective of delivering excellent service to the people of Ogbaru Federal Constituency in your specific area of appointment, or perform any other duties assigned by the office from time to time.”
The appointments were based on the appointees’ experience and commitment to Hon. Ogene’s success as Representative of Ogbaru Federal Constituency and the well-being of Ogbaru.
