* The family of the former Anambra Deputy Speaker Late Rt. Hon, Harford Oseke has fix a date for the burial ceremony
According to the family of Oseke, the burial ceremony of the late lawmaker is as follows:
Service of songs on 22nd October 2024 at his compound in Umuawulu.
Valedictory session on 23rd October, at the Anambra State House of Assembly and final interment on the 24th of October.
* The Lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Honourable Victor Afam Ogene, has distributed relief materials to two displaced Ogwu Ikpele and Ogwuaniocha communities in Ogbaru council area of the State.
The items are hundreds of bags of rice, garri, soup ingredients including maggi, tomatoes pastes, groundnut oil, mattresses, clothes for children, adult men and women.
Over 5,000 people from the two distressed communities benefitted from the gesture
The Lawmaker equally donated the sum of One Million Naira to Ogwuanocha community to use it to commence building peace process in the community. In addition to the relief materials, Ogene trained 100 youths in the area in renewable energy skills.
* As schools in Anambra state prepare to reopen for the first term of 2024/2025 academic session, Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh has advised parents to make early arrangements and enroll their children only in government recognized schools in the State.
The Commissioner who gave the advice in a statement warned that parents enrolling children to any illegal school would be treated as accomplices.
She said: “Any parent that registered a child in a non government recognized school shall be ready to bear the consequences of such action.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has called on athletes and officials of Team Anambra to surpass the state’s previous record at the upcoming 8th National Youth Games (NYG) scheduled to hold at Asaba, Capital of Delta State from 9th to 19th September, 2024.
Soludo made the charge at the Arch. Bishop Obiefuna Retreat Centre Okpuno while addressing the state delegation just before their departure
Represented by his Confidential Secretary, Hon. Nonso Anozie, Soludo stated that his administration is poised in promoting sports development in the state by ensuring that the state athletes attend Inter State Sporting Activities such as the National Youth Games and the National Sports Festival.
* The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) has called for the prioritization of the inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the upcoming local government election in Anambra State.
The Anambra State Chairman of JONAPWD, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, in a statement on Tuesday, called for the removal of barriers that hinder their active participation in electoral processes in the state.
Comrade Okeke emphasized the rights and representation of PWDs in the political process and urged authorities including political parties to ensure their participation in the electoral process
* Anambra State House of Assembly has assured the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) that it will partner in the war against drug abuse and other illicit substances.
Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze while welcoming the a delegation from the NDLEA, Anambra State Command, led by Commander of Narcotic, Onyishi, alongside other members of the House, said highlighted some of the pressing challenges facing the society as a result of drug abuse.
The meeting, held at the Speaker’s conference room, was a heartfelt discussion about the pressing challenges of drug abuse in Anambra State.
* Managing Director of Rojenny Stadium and Games Village, Oba, Rommy Ezeonwuka has advised Anambra athletes at the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State to be the rest in their various sporting events
Ezeonwuka gave the advice on Tuesday as Team Anambra arrived Asaba, Delta State Capital to compete for glory and fame in the developmental game.
Ezeonwuka, a foremost sports facility investor said though the youth games was meant to prepare budding athletes for the future, they should endeavour to come top in their various events.
* Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC has published the list of qualified candidates for the September 28 local government election.
the Chairman of ANSIEC, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe while speaking after making the publication at the Commission’s headquarters in Awka, urged shortlisted candidates to commence campaigns and encouraged the electorate to participate actively and vote for their choice candidates on 28th September, 2024.
Magistrate Osakwe revealed that the list of candidates is for public consumption and asked everyone to visit the headquarters of the commission or any local government area in the 21 council area to confirm names of candidates for individual positions.
* Anambra State House of Assembly at plenary observe one minute silence for the former Deputy Speaker Late Rt. Hon, Harford Oseke.
Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided the sitting, notified the House of the demise of late Oseke who was the Majority Leader of the 5th Assembly and Deputy Speaker of the 6th Assembly (2011-2019).
Rt. Hon. Udeze described the death of Oseke who represented Awka South two constituency as a rude shock.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo is poised to surpass any other state government in Nigeria in the welfare of teachers and has instituted a process to pay the National minimum wage to Anambra civil servants.
The Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh disclosed this during the 2024 Annual Retreat For Principals organized by Anambra state government through the Post Primary Schools Service Commission in conjunction with Ministry of Education at Okpuno, Awka South local council area.
Speaking to the 267 principals gathered for the retreat, Professor Chuma-Udeh while commending the Principals for their support to Governor Soludo’s solution agenda in education, told them to know that the school premises are sacrosanct and should not be used for unauthorized activities.
She told them to promptly inform the ministry of any issue of land encroachment in their schools and also insisted on principals ensuring that their students maintain the dress code of Anambra state Schools.
