* Governor Chukwuma Soludo joins the Catholic community and the people of Anambra State in celebrating the birthday of His Lordship, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Bishop of Awka Diocese.
Governor Soludo described Bishop Ezeokafor as a “spiritual leader and a champion of peace and development” and praised his contributions to the state.
“His unwavering commitment to the spiritual growth and development of our people is truly inspiring,” the Governor said.
The Governor prayed for God’s continued guidance, wisdom, and strength for Bishop Ezeokafor as he continues to serve the people of Anambra State.
* A non-political group and an affiliate of the Association of Anambra State Integrated Indigenes, Solution Integrated Team, has perfected plans to embark on grassroots rallies across the 21 Local Government Areas, of the state, with a view to mobilizing eligible voters for the All Progressives Grand Alliance’s, APGA’s, victory in the September 28 Local Government Elections in the state
The National President of the Association, Hon. Ferguson Ogbonnaya Okpala, disclosed this while on a familiarization visit to the Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka LGA of the state, Barr Dominic Ononiba, in Abagana, recently.
Hon Okpala said that the Association had begun gathering the bio-data of the members who were eligible voters for easy identification of who is who in the Association.
According to him, the Association was targeting about 2,000 eligible voters from its fold for APGA’s victory, not only in the September LGA Elections, but also in the 2025 Gubernatorial Election.
* Anambra Police working on a technology-driven investigation arrested two suspects (names withheld) in their criminal hideout in Nnewi.
The arrest is in a follow-up of the reported case of a Kidnapped but later released victim on 19th August 2024 in Ihiala.
According to a release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer,
Anambra State Command, the suspects confessed to being active participants in the crime and have already provided information to the Police that is aiding the Investigation.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor as a champion of ecumenism in the church universal.
Felicitating Bishop Ezeokafor on his 72nd birthday on behalf of the State Legislature, Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that the Catholic Prelate has distinguished himself among his contemporaries through his deep evangelical exploits as well as effective church administration.
The Speaker who expressed satisfaction with the manner Bishop Ezeokafor has continued to identify with other church denominations, described the gesture as a display of true understanding of practical Christianity.
Udeze enjoined other priests to emulate Bishop Ezeokafor’s sterling attributes by leading their congregations to true repentance, adding that Bishop Ezeokafor has proved to be serving under the special anointing and grace of God.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has flaged off campaign of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Orumba North local government area with the presentation of flags to those contesting for chairmanship and councillorship positions in the local government.
The programme which coincided with APGA Nanka Summit was held at Isibu Nwagu Central School field, Nanka.
Governor Soludo represented by his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim also received some persons who were members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; Labour Party; Young Progressives Party, YPP; and All Progressives Congress, APC into APGA.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Soludo expressed Joy at the massive turn out of APGA members from the nineteen wards in Orumba North local government area for the events, which he said showed that Orumba North is for APGA.
* Anambra State House of Assembly’s Committee on Information has paid a familiarization visit to the state Ministry of Information to gain insights into the ministry’s operations, identify challenges, and explore avenues for legislative support.
The Committee, led by its Chairman, Mr Fred Ezenwa, who represents Onitsha South One constituency, was received by the Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat in Awka.
During the visit, Mr Ezenwa emphasized that the purpose of the familiarization visit was to foster a better understanding of the ministry’s functions, challenges, and potential areas for improvement.
* Arrangements have been concluded by the National Association of Surface Tank Oil and Gas Retailers of Nigeria, NASTOGRN, to embark on a statewide sensitization programme in Anambra State on promoting and protecting retailers’ rights in the oil and gas business in the country, in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency, NOA.
The National President of the Association, Dr Marcus Okotete, disclosed this recently, when he paid a solidarity visit to the Director, NOA, Anambra State Directorate, Mr Edozie Ajaegbu, at Ebele Ofunneamaka Okeke Federal Secretariat Complex, Awka.
According to Dr Okotete, who doubles as the Chairman of the Board of Trustee of the Association, the Directors of Department of State Services; Fire Service; Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission; Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Nnaghe Itam; including the state’s top government officials; would grace the occasion, which, he said, would take place on 12th October, 2024.
* The APGA Chairmanship candidate of Orumba South Local Government Area, Mr Shedrack Azubuike has promised to ensure youth development in the council area.
Speaking during the 1 Youth 2 Skills reorientation exercise organized by the Ministry of Youth Development at the council headquarters, Umunze, Azubuike said that his major priority is to see that youths in the local government area thrives in their various areas of specialization.
He noted that the 1 Youth 2 Skills programme is one of the governor’s numerous ways of appreciating the values placed in the youths in his administration, urging the youths to take the programme seriously and promised to ensure they have swift training sessions with the various trainers.
* An NGO, Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), has waded into the crisis rocking Isuaniocha Commiunity in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
There have been allegations of intimidation of some members of the community by police officers, hounding some parties and harassing them over a court case they instituted against other parties in the community over land issues and allegations of killing.
The Executive Director of RULAAC, Mr Okechukwu Nwanguma, in a press release, called on the Police Services Commission (PSC) to call on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to cause police in Anambra to stop further harassment.
* The attention of Anambra State Government has been drawn to the activities of some unscrupulous persons who have continued to deceive unsuspecting members of the public to purchase parcels of land within the World Bank Rice Project, Ufuma, claiming that it belongs to them.
According to a notice issued by the Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Lands, Mrs Nkeiru Mokwe, Esq on behalf of the commissioner, the general public are advised to be wary of the activities of land grabebrs and/or any purported claim or release of the World Bank Rice Project, Ufuma, because the land belongs to the State Government.
Mokwe maintained that the Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Lands has never released any land to anyone, persons or any community in that regards, even as the said parcels of land remains the property of the Anambra State Government.
