Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC says no political party or candidate is a favourite ahead of the September 28 local government election.

Chairman of the Commission, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe made the statement
while charging ndi Anambra not to fall for cheap propaganda ahead of September 28 local government election in the state.
The ANSIEC boss gave the charge on the last day of the Commission’s tour of Local Government Areas with a visit to Awka North and South, Dunukofia, Anaocha and Njikoka.
The tour were attend by a cross section of stakeholders from the local government areas drawn from political parties, candidates, religious leaders, representatives of the town unions and traditional institutions.
The essence of the tour according to Magistrate Osakwe, is to interact, educate and cascade the commission’s plan for a free, fair and credible polls in two weeks time to the grassroots using community and opinion leaders.
This, she believes, will help the commission achieve success as the electorate will, themselves, play the leading role as major stakeholders in the electoral process.
She discredited the rumour making the rounds that the commission has endorsed some candidates and political parties ahead of the election and described it as cheap propaganda which is targeted at discouraging the electorate from speaking through their votes and insisting for quality representation.
Magistrate Osakwe assured that ANSIEC under her watch is determined to deliver the most freest , fairest and most credible local government elections ever witnessed in the country .
The stakeholders took towns to seek clarifications and make necessary contributions in the process so far while commending the commission for bringing them upto speed through the local government tour.
One of the stakeholders and President General of Awba-Ofemili, Mr. Fidelis Chukwunedu thanked the commission for being dogged in ensuring that the various communities in the 21 local government areas of the state are being carried along and assured that they will sensitise the electorate in their communities to ensure full participation.
