* Seven hundred and seventy-four Nnobi indigenes have been enrolled into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme for the year 2024.

Among the beneficiaries, were five hundred people sponsored by Sir Pius Ufudo Foundation, one hundred and forty-four sponsored by Nnobi US Diaspora Health Group, and one hundred others sponsored by Okigbo family.

The event held at Sir Pius Ufudo Complex, St Theresa’s Catholic Church Nnobi, featured health talk by a medical officer with ASHIA, Dr Ngozi Ifediora, during which she assured that ASHIA facilities in the community can handle the enrollees’ health issues, and will make referrals when need arises.

* An effort to help in the reformation of inmate’s character, the Anambra State Chapter of the Prison Fellowship Nigeria has been inaugurated and members underwent two days training to equip them in discharging their responsibilities.

The Executive Director of Prison Fellowship Nigeria, Mr. Benson Iwuagu, a lawyer, explained that PFN is a faith-based organization, made up of different Christian denominations aimed at reforming criminals in correctional facilities through the teaching of God’s word to bring about behavioral change.

The State Chairman of Prison Fellowship Nigeria, Apostle Peter Okoye pointed out that the state Chapter executive was elected last year and are being formally inaugurated, adding that the training acquired will help them to impact on the inmates through God’s love to become better citizens, including the skills and family empowerment they get.

* Professor Chukwuma Soludo has sworn-in the twenty one (21) newly elected local government Chairmen of Anambra State.

The Mayors were sworn-in alongside the Deputy Mayors at the Executive Chambers, Government House, Awka.

Governor Soludo while speaking, urged the Mayors to prioritize grassroots development during their tenure.

The Governor highlighted the critical role of the LGAs in promoting development at the grassroots. He urged the chairmen to see themselves as agents of positive change in their communities.

* Enugwu-Agidi Community, in Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra have invested N31.5 Million in Education Development of the Community under the group called  Educate Enugwu-Agidi Committee (EEAC).

The National Coordinator of EEAC, Dr. Chinedu Ikeanyi, while speaking during
the unveiling of newly renovated and remodeled Mrs. Mary Okam Laboratory Complex at the Community Secondary School (CSS) said that the fund was raised at CSS and Government Technical College (GTC) by generous indigenes both at home and in diaspora.

Dr. Ikeanyi represented by the Project Director of EEAC, Engr. Victor Onwudinjo,
maintained that the aim of EEAC was  to stop the current practice of the community school age persons travelling to acquire education in neighboring towns.

* The member representing Anambra East Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Obi Nweke says that he will continue to deliver dividends of democracy to his constituents.

Speaking after inspecting a water borehole he constructed for the people of Umuoba Anam, Hon. Nweke maintained that his dividends of democracy will get to all the communities in Anambra East.

Hon. Nweke, a lawyer, thanked the people of Umuoba Anam for the unalloyed support they are giving him, promising not to disappoint them or any other community in the council area.

* The Anambra State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, NSCDC has arrested five suspected illegal private security guards with three pump – action guns.

Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant stated this in Awka on Thursday 3rd of October, 2024 while parading the suspects, according to a press release signed by Superintendent of Corps Okadigbo Edwin,head Media and Tactical Ops NSCDC Anambra State Command.

The NSCDC State helmsman said the suspects were arrested at an illegal road block in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State extorting money from motorists while causing untold hardships to the road users. He stressed that the arrest of the suspects were part of the Corps determination to eliminate impersonators and undesirable elements who hide under the cover of private security guard to perpetuate crime.

* Anambra Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike says the administration of
Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s will never allow anyone or group of people to toy with the lives of its citizens.

Dr. Obidike made the statement while speaking recently in a one-day seminar for the National Association of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioners in the state organized through the Ministry of Health held in Awka, with theme “registration, renewal, recertification processes and practice guidelines”.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Obidike warned that the ministry must understand the mode of operations of the association, criteria for becoming a member and where their facilities are located among other things, and urged them to help the government to serve them better or the ministry will start clamping down on them to safeguard the lives of Ndi Anambra.

* Nsugbe, a town in Anambra State, has recently become a center of concern due to escalating criminal activities, particularly in the Prime Street area.

A concerned resident, who requested anonymity, has made a heartfelt plea to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene, as crime and corruption have reached alarming levels in the community.

According to the citizen, Prime Street, located near Nwafor Orizu College of Education, has been plagued by various forms of criminality, including vandalism, theft, and corruption. Residents and students alike are living in fear as hoodlums continue to wreak havoc in the area, with little to no intervention from law enforcement.

The resident highlighted the growing insecurity in Nsugbe, particularly on College Road, which is close to the Nwafor Orizu College of Education. Students and locals have become frequent targets of these criminal elements, with no sign of relief in sight.

* Riverine communities in Anambra State have been urged to heed the call by the State government to prepare for relocation ahead of the predicted flood that will affect the state.

Speaking in Awka recently, the immediate past State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Sir Norbert Obi said that this will help to save lives and property.

Sir Obi said that the state government has taken proactive measures to ensure that the devastation of the flood is drastically reduced if it occurs and has sustained mass enlightenment and sensitization of the people since the prediction by weather agencies.

* The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor says faith is very important for spiritual growth and development.

In a sermon at St James’ parish Nanka in Orumba North Local government area during a service of confirmation and admission into Girls Guild and Mothers Union for all the parishes under Nanka Archdeaconry, Bishop Ezeofor stressed the need for expansion of God’s kingdom.

He called on the faithful to always approach God with faith to reap more blessings and Mercy, warning them against acts capable of contradicting their faith and belief in God.
