* Anambra State Emergency Management Agency has begun distribution of relief materials to 2024 flood affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Anambra State.
Flag off of the distribution which took place at the SEMA warehouse, Awka had some affected LGAs present for immediate collection of their own relief materials.
The items distributed includes mattresses, buckets, blankets, clothing materials, plates, cups, mosquito nets, soaps and disinfectants.
Executive Secretary, SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo noted that four LGAs out of ten have been flooded and Ogbaru is the most effected followed by Anambra East, Anambra West and Ayamelum.
* The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, (NIWA), Chief George Moghalu has sustained his consultative visits to Labour Party’s stakeholders in Anambra.
Chief Moghalu who recently joined the party aims to use the visits to inform them that he has formally joined the Labour Party and also his intention to contest the state’s 2025 governorship election on the platform of LP.
As part of his efforts to engage with all critical stakeholders of the party, Chief Moghalu visited the eight-member caucus of the Labour Party and other 2023 general election candidates of the party.
During the visit, Moghalu appreciated them for their efforts in strengthening the party in State. He also formally informed them that he has now joined the party, and also his intention to contest the coming 2025 Anambra Gubernatorial primary of LP.
* Anambra State Government has announced that it will no longer condone erection of shanties and dingy shops along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra State (OCHA BRIGADE) made the announcement through a release made by its environment monitoring taskforce and signed by its Managing Director and Chief Superintendent General, Comrade Celestine Anere.
According to the release, it is the intention of the State Government to bring to public its decision to expunge and rid the entire stretch of road from Amansea axis of the Federal highway all through down to Bridgehead, Onitsha Metropolis of shanties and attachments on either sides of the Enugu-Onitsha road.
* In line with the drive to promote a Sustainable Eco friendly Environment in Anambra state, the Management of Polaris Bank Limited has spoken of its readiness to partner Anambra State on its annual one million tree planting initiative.
The initiative is one of the Prof. Charles Soludo’s government’s initiative which is aimed at mitigating climate change and the control of erosion in the state.
The Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu said this during the flagoff of one million tree planting event at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University, Igbariam.
* The Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Anthony Ifeanya says plans are underway for a world class training of Anambra Youths on Oil and Gas skills.
Ifeanya made this statement after hosting a delegation from a technology institute Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, who called on him in his office at the Jerome Udoji secretariat Awka, seeking for partnership.
According to Commissioner Ifeanya, in line with Governor Chukwuna Soludo’s ongoing 1Youth, 2Skills initiative, some of the Ministry’s staff and Anambra Youths in general would be trained as skilled technicians and Oil and Gas workers in different areas of interests to achieve the ministry’s mandate of job creation.
Ifeanya assured that on graduation, participants would have acquired technical knowledge on Oil and Gas for gainful employment within and outside Nigeria.
* Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated a panel to unravel the cause of insecurity in Oguaniocha Community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.
Over 5,000 members of Ogwuaniocha Community are currently displaced from both their homes and farmlands by criminal gangs, in what is said to be crisis relating to oil mining. The displaced people are staying in safer areas in the local government, while most others have fled the area.
The crisis which has lingered since 2020 also led to the abduction of the traditional ruler of the area, who is yet to be found till date. But Soludo in a resolve to get to the root of the problem in the area, constituted a commission of inquiry.
* The All Progressives Congress (APC) women wing, has expressed commitment towards ensuring that the party retire governor Chukwuma Soludo’s led All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) from Anambra State government.
The women, who disclosed this at one day summit for Anambra State women theme, ‘The role of women in politics in this 21st century,’ held at Awka, said they have lined up series of programmes to ensure effective grassroots mobilisation for APC victory at the State 2025 gubernatorial poll.
Speaking at the programme, Anambra State Women Leader, APC, Lady Maria Ejielo, urged women to pursue positions of leadership in both the public and private sectors, as well as enroll their female children to schools to gain leadership skills and other enablement to excel in life.
* The new Clerk of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Anthony Ughanu has urged staff of the institution to put in their best so as to achieve the aims and objectives.
Ughanu while addressing the House of Assembly staff, called for synergy, dedication and unite of purpose.
According to the Clerk, “this meeting is for us to introduce ourselves and to be mindful of protocols and the traditions because responsibilities are all intertwined to make our job better. There are things we must do to make this institution function optimally, and efficiency of service delivering is key.
In there separate remarks, the acting deputy clerk, Mrs Cynthia Idemobi, and the head of admin, Mrs Uzoh urged the staff to dress decent and modest to work.
* The Accountant General of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwudi Okoli, has described the Local Government Administration Bill 2024, signed into law by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, as a transformative measure to strengthen the local government system in the State.
In an interview with Abuchi Nwozor, Dr. Okoli emphasized that the law is people-oriented, highlighting that Governor Soludo’s efforts to reposition grassroots governance and bring more democratic dividends to the people, including conducting local government elections after a ten-year hiatus is commendable.
He urged Ndi Anambra to continue supporting the Soludo administration, citing its quality programs and policies, and reminded the citizens of their civic responsibilities, including paying approved taxes and levies to enable the government to serve them better and protect public facilities from vandalism.
* Anambra state government through the Universal Basic Education Board ASUBEB, has distributed sports equipment and materials to schools.
The kits and equipment to schools were procured under the 2019/2020 Universal Basic Education, Matching Grant for Anambra State and marks the fulfilment of government’s commitment to the development of sports in the public and public-mission schools.
The sports equipment and materials were jersey, balls, badminton, table tennis kits, goal posts, skipping ropes, among numerous others.
