The Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Chief Emeka Orji, has evacuated the refuse dumped at the bank of River Niger, on Niger Street, Fegge, a proposed site for recreation centre.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the Mayor frowning at the mountain of refuse at the site, admonished the residents to refrain from the act, saying that in no distant time the area would be a leisure and entertainment centre.
Orji reiterated his resolve to restore the lost glory of Onitsha in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration to better the welfare of the people, emphasising that Onitsha must be a liveable and peaceful area.
The LG Chairman further said that after the construction of the recreation centre and other developments put in place that Onitsha would be one of the tourist sites in the state and Nigeria at large with job opportunity for our teeming youths.
Reacting, the Special Assistant (SA) to Onitsha South Mayor on Politics, Comrade Dunu Chiadikaobi, who inspected the evacuation exercise, condemned in strong terms the indiscriminate dumping of refuse at the proposed tourist centre, describing it as an eyesore.
ANN gathered that the clearing exercise was done by Rytec Company, the Company in charge of Sweeping and clearing of dirts from the major streets and strategic positions in the area.
