* The Obosi Development Union (ODU) President General, Barr. Chimezie Obi, said that football had become a tool for unifying the people of Obosi, who hail from different villages that make up the Obosi-inland town.

Obi made the comment when he presented a football trophy to the Indomitable Rams of Ire Village, the winners of the 2024 Obosi-inland town inter-village football competition.

Barr. Obi further said that the annual Obosi-inland towninter-village football competition offers football coaches the opportunity to discover football talents, who would be nurtured to stardom and greatness.

* The heads of the seven kindreds that make up Ogwuari village, Nsugbe in Anambra East LGA have drawn the attention of Anambra State Government to a group of individuals who are formenting trouble in the village by challenging the leadership of the duly elected National Chairman of the village, Pastor Achunwa Ifejika.

Addressing the press, the Chairman of all the chairmen of the seven kindreds and oldest person in the village, Chief Patrick Agbata, flanked by heads of all the kindreds, said the village elected Pastor Ifejika as its National Chairman on 16th December, 2023 in one of the most peaceful elections in the village to serve for a four-year tenure.

According to Chief Agbata, these individuals whom he tagged “band of mischief makers and hoodlums” led by an individual who never participated in the election have decided to make the village ungovernable, have obtained a “court judgment without a hearing” and commenced selling communal lands despite an appeal and stay of execution filed by the village.

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike has chaired a strategic health meeting with World Health Organisation (WHO), other health partners in the State.

The meeting focused on identifying areas for improvement, strengthening healthcare infrastructure, and ensuring better service delivery to the people.

* The Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Captain Casmir Nwafor (Rtd), has called on political and security stakeholders, traditional rulers, Presidents-General, religious bodies as well as affluent citizens of Orumba North to join hands with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration in fighting insecurity.

Speaking during the 2025 Orumba North Peace and Security Summit, Nwafor said all hands must be on deck in fishing out miscreants. He called on all to collaborate with security agencies in the area to ensure adequate security of life and property.

The Mayor revealed that plans are on ground to increase the number of the local vigilante groups as well as install CCTV observation posts in Orumba North Council Area to enhance security.

* Anambra State Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam on Friday decorated hundred and ten (110) officers recently promoted to their new ranks.

Other senior police officers as well as the families of the promoted officers performed the decoration exercise at the event held at the Anambra Police Command.

Twenty (20) Superintendents of Police (SP) were promoted to Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP), twenty four (24) Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) were promoted to Superintendents of Police (SP) while
Sixty-six (66) Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) were promoted to Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP).

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, DCP. Felix Ogarabe who spoke on behalf of CP Itam after the decoration said promotion comes from God and urged the newly promoted officers to use their new ranks judiciously and inspire their junior ones, and also work within the ethics of the profession.

* Former Secretary-General of Commonwealth of Nations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku has visited the site of the ongoing building for Emeka Anyaoku Institute of International Studies and Diplomacy.

Receiving the August visitor, UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu eulogized Chief Anyaoku for finding time to visit the institution and the site of the building project.

Prof. Ikechebelu stated that it was a rare privilege to receive an elder statement of his caliber and class as well as a great opportunity for the institution to have an institute name after him in keeping with his legacies and contribution towards nation building.

* A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chinedu Obigwe, has accused Rev Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, popularly known as Ebube Muonso, of politicizing insecurity in Anambra State.

This comes after Rev Father Ebube Muonso called for the resignation of Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, due to the growing insecurity in the state.

Obigwe disputed Rev Fr. Ebube Muonso’s claim that the current regime has witnessed the highest number of killings in Anambra’s history, citing instances of high-profile killings and kidnappings that occurred during the regime of a certain former governor of the state.
