* The Mayor of Onitsha North LGA, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora has hosted the newly posted DPO of Inland Town Police Onitsha, SP Joy Elemoko, who paid a familiarization visit to the Mayor’s office.
The Mayor assured the new DPO that he will continue to work in synergy with the Nigeria Police and all other security agencies to ensure the safety of residents’ lives and properties.
In response, SP Joy Elemoko expressed her gratitude to the Mayor for the warm reception. She acknowledged his commitment to security and assured him of her collaboration and cooperation in enhancing the security architecture of Onitsha North LGA.
* The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba has promised that he will continue to attract devidend of democracy to his people which is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision
Hon. Ononiba who marked his hundred days in office on Thursday January 16, 2025, thanked the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the opportunity to serve ndi Njikoka.
Speaking at the launching of a free health insurance program for one thousand (1,000) indigenes of Njikoka, the Mayor in his remark at the event held at the Local Government field, stated he is committed in improving the lives of Njikoka indigenes through providing accessible and affordable healthcare services to the people.
The Mayor revealed that four roads are currently on-going, courtesy of the Solution government to Soludo and that more development are coming.
* The remains of Rev. Fr. Tobias Okonkwo, priest of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Anambra State, has been burried amid tears from priests, family members and well-wishers.
Fr. Okonkwo, who was murdered by gunmen in Ihiala on December 26, 2024, was buried on Thursday, January 16, 2025 after a requiem Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Nnewi.
The requiem mass attended by hundreds of priests and Rev. Sisters from different religious congregations, family members, friends and well-wishers, was presided over by the Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Aguleri, His Lordship, Most Rev. Denis Isizoh, and concelebrated by the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Rev. Jonas-Benson Okoye, and the Auxiliary Bishop of Portharcourt Diocese, Most Rev. Patrick Eluke.
In his homily, the Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Monsignor Anichebe Patrick Ezeobata, noted that Fr. Tobias Okonkwo, who he said, died at the prime of his youth, had already carved out an impressive nitche for himself, and had led an impactful pastoral life before his death.
* Urum community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State has refuted the rumor making the rounds that kidnappers have their den in the town, describing the circulating voicenote as the the work of mischief makers who mean no good for the town and the state government.
The community made this known through the President General, Sir Felix Oranye, in an interview with the ABS on the development.
Sir Felix explained that there is no tick forest in Urum community, much less of a kidnappers’ den as claimed in the said viral voicenote.
He clarified that Urum is an agrarian community and members of the town farm on all the lands to the boundaries with the neighbouring communities, saying that through the town union’s investigations, it was discovered that the voicenote was doctored with AI, by haters of the town and government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo led administration.
* Diaspora Members of Amaokpala Community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has expressed outrage over the rising insecurity in the state following the kidnapping of one of their prominent sons, Mr. Ikechukwu Okeke.
The tragic incident occurred as Mr. Okeke was returning home from the funeral of his cousin, Mrs. Obiageli Okoli.
The community has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to take immediate and decisive action to address the security challenges threatening lives and property in the region.
* The newly elected President General (PG) of Umuokpu village in Awka South Local Government Area, Barr. Chukwudi Edwin Okeke, has reaffirmed his community’s unwavering support for the re-election of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
Barr. Okeke made this pledge during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/CEO of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Mr. Ossy Onuko, on Wednesday at his office in Awka.
He assured Mr. Onuko that the people of Umuokpu were committed to ensuring that 90% of their votes go to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming election.
In his response, Mr. Ossy Onuko expressed gratitude for the delegation support and commended the dedication of Umuokpu community. Onuko assured them of government continued support, emphasizing that their steadfastness to the APGA cause would be well recognized.
* Anambra State government through
Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra; Ocha brigade enforcement team has shut down Happiness Guest House, Amawbia, Awka South LGA.
No fewer than ten (10) sex workers were arrest at the building.
This operation was carried out after intelligence report shows that their illegal activities has aided all kinds of crimes, ranging from drug trafficking, under-aged sex workers and a hideout for arm robbers and all sorts of criminal activities.
The MD of the agency, Chief Celestine Anere, reacting on the shutting down of the motel, vowed to ensure that the operators are arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others who might be running similar illegal activities in the State.
* A community leader in Ozu village in Ndiukwuenu, Orumba North Local Government Area, Chief Chukwudi Nweke has countered the claims by some group of protesters recently at the Government House Awka, that their farm lands in “Mamu River Forest Reserve” are being sold out and their crops and economic trees on the lands destroyed by some individuals in Ozu village in collaboration with the Anambra State Commissioner for Lands, Professor Amucheazi Offornze.
Chief Nweke who said that he is the present authentic Chairman of Ozu village generally elected by villagers, explained that the lands being sold at “Mamu River Forest Reserve”, are individuals’ plots which they got as their own share from the compensatory plots given to the village by Anambra State government, which all the villagers are entitled for a share from, saying that the protesters are made-up of people who mean no good for the community.
He further said compensatory plots given to the village and its sharing was duly announced to the villagers severally, and wondered why some group of persons will later gang up and be causing problem in the community.
Chief Nweke disclosed that part of the compensatory plots is still remaining for members of the village who are yet to get their own share, calling on such persons to come forward and take their own plots instead of fomenting trouble and dragging the name of the village to the mud.
* The Chairman, Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo has led a delegation of government officials to the scene of the fire that ravaged parts of the popular Afia Abani market in Nkwo Nnewi.
The fire, which broke out at about 2 a.m Tuesday, prompted an immediate response from the Anambra State Fire Service which quickly mobilized to contain the inferno.
Upon arrival at the scene, entourage toured the affected areas to assess the extent of the destruction.
The Mayor expressed heartfelt condolences to the shop affected owners and assured them that the government would take all necessary steps to support them.
* The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Chinedu Ononiba has launched a free health insurance program for one thousand (1,000) indigenes of Njikoka.
The Mayor in his remark at the event held
on Thursday at the Njikoka Local Government field, stated that the
innovative program is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision in prioritizing healthcare in Anambra State.
