US-Based Nigerian Doctor Takes Own Life Over $15,000 Child Support

A 36-year-old Nigerian doctor living in the United States, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, has reportedly taken his own l!fe after losing a child support case against his ex-wife.

The incident happened on Sunday, January 26. Dr. Erinne, who was from Anambra State, had been in a long and difficult divorce battle, including a fight for the custody of his children.

A U.S. court ruled in favor of his ex-wife and ordered him to pay $15,000 per month in child support.

A Nigerian-American named Clayton Udo confirmed the news on X.com, saying the court’s ruling put a heavy financial burden on Dr. Erinne, which led to his tragic death.

He wrote, “The abuse of African men in the USA must stop. Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a skilled cardiologist, allegedly took his own life after being ordered to pay $15,000 monthly to his ex-wife. His case highlights problems in the legal system that affect African men.”

Udo also claimed that Dr. Erinne spent thousands of dollars on legal fees and eventually lost his medical license because of the case.

“He lost all his money in court. Then they took his medical license and ordered him to pay $15,000 every month. He was also given limited access to his children. In the end, he shot himself,” Udo said.

Another Nigerian living in the U.S., Obim Onujiogu, confirmed Dr. Erinne’s death on Facebook. He described him as a caring doctor and a loving father.

Dr. Erinne’s funeral will take place on Monday in Maryland, U.S.
