* The Anglican Bishop of Ogbaru Diocese, Rt. Rev. Prosper Amah, has charged Christians to anchor their faith and trust in God in order to continue reaping His blessings and mercy.
In a sermon during a Covenant Sunday at St James Diocesan Church Center in Iyiowa Odekpe, Bishop Amah, who emphasized that God’s resources are inexhaustible, cautioned the faithful against all forms of hell-sponsored distractions.
Rt. Rev. Amah, while affirming that the standard of Christian faith paves the way for salvation through Christ, urged the faithful to always obey God’s commandments and live according to the fruits of the Holy Spirit in order to access God’s resources, while warning against laziness.
* Anambra State Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Enugu Depot unit, have sealed an agreement to aggressively monitor petrol stations with tampered meters and adulterated products.
The agreement was sealed when a delegation from IPMAN, Enugu Depot unit, called on the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Anthony Ifeanya, in his office at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat in Awka to lodge their displeasure.
Members of IPMAN Enugu Depot unit, covering Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Cross River, Benue, and parts of Kogi States, were led on the visit by their Chairman, Mr. Chinedu Anyaso.
Speaking, Mr. Anyaso, disclosed that they came to register their displeasure over what he described as multiple taxation on their members by government after paying the yearly agreed N120,000 consolidated levies by each filling station.
Responding, Commissioner Ifeanya, who told them that government is already aware of their claims, noted that he raised it during their beginning of the year retreat put together by Anambra State Government and assured a lasting solution in no distant time.
He directed them to forward to his ministry, list of all the functional filling stations to enable them to build their database.
* After series of issuing warnings on zero tolerance for environmental and social vices, the Anambra State Government through Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade has kicked off demolition of shanties as it enforces strict regulations to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all residents and visitors.
The enforcement is in line with the state government’s efforts to promote a clean and healthy environment.
The brigade began the enforcement at the Igbariam axis of Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere said that the move is in compliance with the directive of the state government to ensure the removal and demolition of shanties constructed under high-tension lines and illegal display of goods and other structures on roadside by traders.
The OCHA Brigade boss urged traders of all sorts to go into government approved markets and wait for their customers instead of risking their lives on the roads and ruining the aesthetics of the state, emphasizing that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is intentional about restoring and repositioning the state as a destination hub.
* The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Anambra State Council, Comrade Humfrey Nwafor has urged the Federal Government to reverse the fifty percent tariff hike in telecommunication to ameliorate the sufferings of the masses.
Comrade Nwafor who made the call while commenting on the February fourth proposed labour nationwide protest over the hike said that NLC in Anambra State will join the protest to let the Federal Government know the inherent dangers of such an unfair increase on a struggling population, especially average workers.
He also observed that the hike in petroleum, electricity and telecommunication prices is causing inflation in the market as traders now buy goods at high rate and sell it above the reach of the common man.
* The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Command, says it will begin sanctioning transporters and fleet operators for non-compliance with passengers’ manifests and installation of speed limit devices from March 1, 2025.
The Anambra Sector Commander, Joyce Alexander, made the disclosure in Awka, when briefing newsmen on the command’s performance in the 2024 ‘Operation Zero’ programme.
Alexander decried the low level of compliance with the installation of speed limit devices by commercial transporters, especially fleet operators, and associated sharp practices such as tampering with the device
The sector commander also said that many inter-state commercial drivers and fleet operators fail to comply with carrying passengers’ manifest with a column for blood group as provided by law when travelling.
* More Ndi Anambra have continued to commend Governor Chukwuma Soludo for effective security network he has put in place in the State.
Reacting on the recent launch of Operation Udo Ga Achi, a Lagos based business executive, Chief Amechi Ozoemena said the launch of the outfit is well deserved, as effective security of lives and property will apart from creating hope for the people ensure seamless business transactions thereby boosting the state economy and called on Ndi Anambra to see security of lives and property as a collective responsibility.
Also speaking, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Bob-Emmanuel Okonmah, who maintained that Governor Soludo has done exceedingly well in office, urged Ndi Anambra to keep supporting his administration as no state or country will develop in a state of insecurity.
* A scandal involving one billion naira is allegedly rocking Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, prompting staff members to stage a protest over the non-payment of their salaries for five years.
The protesters claim that the one billion naira Personnel Cost, meant for the payment of over one thousand (1,000) staff members, was misappropriated.
One of the protesters who does not want his name to be mention while speaking said: We are shocked and disappointed that such a huge sum of money meant for our salaries was allegedly mismanaged.
Several of our members have died due to the non-payment of their salaries, and we demand justice.”
Reacting, Unizik Bursar Mr. Gozie Egwuatu dismissed allegations that the one billion Personnel Cost was misappropriated.
Egwuatu further explained that the university made several applications, and it wasn’t until late 2023 that it received approval for only one hundred and twenty
(120) staff members, with the condition that 100 would be academic staff and 20 non-academic staff.
* The Executive Chairman of Awka-South Local Government Area of Anambra State Hon. Prince Chinedu Okafor has debunked and denied allegations of using one Prince Collins Ozojiofor a.k.a Snoop to molest and terrorise tricycle operators operating in the council area.
Okafor who spoke to newsmen, maintained that such circumstance never existed in Awka-South under his watch and that the utmost priority of his government is the welfare and well-being of the citizens including Keke drivers who do their transportation businesses without molestations or harassments from anyone, according to him.
The Keke drivers alleged that the Awka-South Local Government Chairman in conspiracy with Snoop and backing of the newly conscripted Agunechemba Special Force imposed the acquisition of a certain security number from the local government authority which they resisted vehemently on the grounds that the state government had already done its security profiling on tricycle operators in the state, as reported in the news recently.
