* Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party and Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has commended lawmaker representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu for her exceptional leadership and passion in delivering dividend of democracy to her people.
Obi gave the commendation during the commissioning of three monumental projects in the Awka North and South Federal Constituency, including construction of an access road to the Holy Family Youth Village in Amansea, as well as the rehabilitation of classrooms for Ezi-Awka Community Secondary School and Agulu Awka Primary School.
He praised her commitment to education and infrastructure development which he described as truly exceptional.
* Thle Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has said that no amount of award given to Governor Chukwuma Soludo will be too much to appreciate his development efforts and overall good governance in the State.
In his Congratulatory Message to Governor Soludo on his emergence as the 2024 Sun Newspaper Man Of The Year, Rt. Hon. Udeze described the award as a true confirmation of Governor Soludo’s achievements in all sectors of the State economy.
According to the Speaker, the Governor has done Ndi Anambra proud in many ways by improving the education system, road infrastructure , healthcare system, youth development, Urban regeneration as well as security of lives and property of Ndi Anambra via the launching of Operation Udo Ga Achi Security Outfit among other accomplishments.
Rt. Hon. Udeze called on the citizenry both at home and in the diaspora especially the affluent individuals to join forces with Governor Soludo to promote peace and development, urging them to use their connections to assist in the herculean task which Governor Soludo has continued to champion in the fight against insecurity in the State.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Chiamaka Nnake, has advised members of Tax Justice and Governance Platform to extend their tax for Service Campaign to local government chairmen, for optimal success.
The Commissioner made the call during an advocacy visit by the team under the Tax for Service Project implemented in partnership with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, (CISLAC) with funding support from Oxfam Nigeria.
Nnake noted that by financial autonomy, the local government collect some revenues in form of fees and levies for which they also must be held accountable.
* The member representing Oyi Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Innocent Ojike has frowned at the attitude of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security,
Air Vice Marshall (AVM) Ben Chiobi and
Senior Special Assistant on Security, Hon. Mazi Chukwuma Okparaezechukwu for
using their positions to harass and intimidate his people.
Hon. Ojike in a petition addressed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo against Chiobi and Okparaezechukwu, stated that the two appointees of the Anambra State government have abused and ridiculed their exalted offices by using their positions as paid agents to torment, threaten, harass, intimidate and wrestle the communal land of his people.
The lawmaker revealed that Chiobi and Okparaezechukwu used different security outfits such as State Vigilante, Anti-Tout and Agụnechemba to intimate, harass, torment and threaten his people in a very lawless manner to ensure that the market project is executed even in contravention of a lawful order of the Otuocha High court.
According to Hon. Ojike these individuals are appointees of the state government who are supposed to uphold the rule of law, order and best democratic practices.
* The Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi community in his palace, Obosi, Idemili North LGA.
The Mayor was accompanied by the members of executive council of Idemili South, representative of the legislative council and some stakeholders of Idemili South.
In her presentation, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi, congratulated Eze Iweka on his appointment noting that it is a well deserved office. Expressing her confidence that he will deliver beyond expectations, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi, encouraged Eze Iweka to strengthen the traditional institution in Anambra especially in Idemili South and harped on the need to ensure that all pending Igweship tussle in Idemili South are resolved amicably.
* Many people who lost their lives to kidnappers last year would have lived if Anambra Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, had acted earlier.
This was the view of a frontline Governorship Aspirant on the platform of the Labour Party, LP, Mr John Nwosu, who spoke to the press recently in Awka.
Nwosu who was answering a question on whether Governor Soludo’s new security initiative had effectively silenced the opposition, leaving them with nothing left to criticize, rather said it was to the contrary.
He expressed the belief that it was the concerted criticisms from the opposition that prodded Soludo to come with what he described as his belated security measures, noting that it came too late in the day for those who lost their lives.
* No fewer than five persons were recently rescued alive from the various camps of the Fulani Herdsmen who kidnapped them in different parts of Anambra State.
The victims, who include a Pastor with the Grace of God Church, Pastor Godwin Ani; a student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (Igbariam Campus), Rapuluchukwu Achebe; and three young men, were reportedly kidnapped within a space of hours and had already been penned down for mụrder if their relatives failed to pay the different ransom amounts pegged on their head within a given period of time.
Their miracle, however, happened as the gallant officers of the Igbariam squad of the Anambra Vigilante Group, invaded the herdsmen’s camp, overpowered the kidnappers and rescued the victims.
* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, has advised Christians to use every opportunity provided by the ephemeral life on earth to work for an everlasting life in heaven.
The Catholic Bishop gave the advice while delivering a homily during a Holy Mass mark his episcopal visit to St Mary’s Parish, Awka, Anambra State
Reflecting on the gospel and readings of the day, the Bishop reminded the parishioners of St Mary’s that a condition that awaited every man after this ephemeral life had been made explicit by Jesus Christ in Luke 6:24 and Prophet Jeremiah in Chapter 17:5, urging them to make a solemn decision on the one to take.
* The escape of two suspects connected to the kidnap and eventual killing of the member representing Onitsha North 1 state constituency, Hon Justice Azuka has claimed its first casualty.
A source said that the commander of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, CSP Ifeanyi Iburu, whose men led the suspects out before their escape has been removed.
There have been outrage over the escape of the suspects, with many Anambra indigenes alleging that money must have exchanged hands for the suspected to have been aided to escape.
The source said the new commissioner of police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu was forced to act after the state governor made a call to him, expressing bitterness over the handling of the matter.
* The Onitsha South Local Government Area, Anambra State, has vowed to recover all government properties fraudulently appropriated.
The Secretary to the council , Hon. Paul Onuachalla, made the vow while reacting to claims by an Onitsha based business man, Mr. Uzoeto Sabest, that the LG Mayor, Hon. Emeka Orji, demolished his Buildings at Silas Works road worth #600 million despite having approval and Certificate of Occupancy, (C of O) of the demolished buildings.
In his swift reaction to the claim of Sabest, the council scribe stated that,” I’m reacting to the publication made by Uzoeto Sabest, asserting that, Onitsha South Local government demolished #600 million worth of business center and a call to Mr Governor to intervene.
“First and foremost, the land in question is along Silas works road and this particular land is Council property fraudulently appropriated by individuals. We inherited the land as Transition Chairman and later elected.
