* In a surprise move, Hamza Abarah has announced his decision to leave Edel FC, effective immediately. Abarah, who has had a distinguished coaching career, cited personal reasons for his departure.

During his tenure at Edel FC, Abarah led the team to victory in the Anambra State FA Cup, a feat he proudly highlighted in his farewell statement. Abarah expressed his gratitude to the entire Edel FC family, including management, coaches, players, and fans, for the opportunity to be part of the team.

Abarah’s coaching resume boasts an impressive array of experience, having served as Technical Adviser for Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna, Sokoto United FC, and Assistant Technical Adviser for Enyimba FC, Aba, as well as El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.

In his farewell statement, Abarah emphasized the importance of prioritizing his personal well-being, while wishing Edel FC continued success and growth in the future. His departure marks the end of a brief but impactful tenure at Ede

* The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu while reacting to how safe and secure Anambra State is, noted the recent cultural display of his Community Okpoama Kingdom of Brass Local Government as an indication that the State is safe for all visitors and tourists. 

The event had dignitaries in attendance including highly revered Chiefs from Bayelsa and the Governor of Anambra State represented by his Deputy Dr. Gilbert Onyekachukwu Ibezim underscores the importance of fostering unity and cooperation among different cultures and communities and assuring the public that Anambra State is a safe and attractive destination for all visitors.

Anambra State has a rich cultural heritage, with numerous tourist attractions such as Agulu Lake, Ogbunike Cave, and Igbo Ukwu Museum, which showcase the State’s history, art, and natural beauty. The State is also home to several festivals and carnivals, including the Imo Awka, Afia Oru, New Yam and Ofala Festivals, which celebrate the State’s cultural diversity and traditions.

To this end, the CP felicitates with the Christian Community as they celebrate Mothering Sunday and the Muslim Community on Eid al-Fitr (the end of Ramadan), especially in the State. 

*  In a groundbreaking move to curb the proliferation of small arms and light weapons among Nigerian youths, the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) Enugu Zonal Office, led by its Zonal Director, Major Gen. Okechukwu Ugo (Rtd), paid a courtesy visit to the NYSC Anambra State Secretariat. The visit aimed to explore avenues for collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in addressing the alarming issue of youth involvement in crimes fueled by access to illicit weapons.

During the visit at the Federal Secretariat Conference Hall, Major Gen. Ugo emphasized the critical role of youths in the proliferation of small arms and its correlation to criminal activities. “Most of the crimes are being perpetrated by youths.

He further proposed the creation of a Community Development Service (CDS) group within the NYSC, dedicated to raising awareness and engaging Corps members in solutions to this pressing issue. The Zonal Director also requested opportunities to address Corps members during their orientation camps.

Responding to the initiative, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, State Coordinator of NYSC Anambra State, expressed her optimism about the collaboration, describing it as timely and vital. “This initiative comes at the right time, given the prevailing circumstances. It is high time the youths were reoriented to channel their energy into positive values,” she noted. Mrs. Iruma stressed the importance of disabusing the minds of young people from negative influences and instilling the values of hard work and dedication. “NYSC is glad to partner with the NCCSALW for such an important national assignment.”

* The two Labour Party aspirants for the Anambra state governorship election, Chief George Muoghalu and Sir John Nwosu have been screened and confirmed for the party primaries slated for April 5, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement by Obiora Ifoh, National Publicity Secretary Labour Party.

The Screening Committee led by its chairman and the Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon George Ozodinobi, screened the two aspirants after which it submitted the result to the leadership of the party.

In his speech, Hon Ozodinobi praised the two aspirants for being true party members and also commended them for their track records and loyalty to the leadership of the party. He assured them of the party’s non partisan approach towards its selection process and its commitment in ensuring that the best aspirant emerge.

* Crisis has rocked the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, resulting in the suspension of the council’s Vice Chairman, Betty Onuchukwu Ikweme, barely two months after the council’s elections.

The suspension was announced in a disclaimer public notice issues on Saturday by the union’s secretary, Okechukwu Onuegbu, PhD.

The crisis erupted following online media reports claiming that the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, had inaugurated a new leadership, with Comrade Chuks Ilozue of Daily Independent as Chairman.

However, the State Working Committee of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, disputed these claims, stating that the reports were untrue and fictitious.

* The All Progressives Congress (APC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party and other opposition political parties in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State have endorsed Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and his Deputy Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim for a second term in office.

The endorsement which was unanimously made through a collective voice vote at an inter-party stakeholders engagement held at the Idemili-South council secretariat Ojoto on Friday to X-ray the governor’s three years in office with emphasis on Idemili-South, had the oppositions testifying that the Solution Government has indeed met and surpassed their expectations.

They jointly made a bold and declarative statement that the duo of Soludo and Ibezim have no replacements as far as the November 8th governorship election in the state is concerned because they also believe very strongly that there is no vacancy in the Government House for now until the incumbent Governor and his Deputy completed their eight years in office.

Convener of the inter-party stakeholders engagement who also doubles as the Executive Mayor of Idemili-South Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Amaka Obi while addressing the stakeholders who listened with avid attentiveness reeled out the sterling achievements of the present administration across Ànambra State with a special focus on Idemili-South Local Government Area.

*  The immediate past Anambra State Commissioner For Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, has bagged a doctorate degree (PhD) in Public Administration from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka

Majoring in Public Policy Analysis and Methods, Nwosu, was decorated alongside others by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Joe Ikechebelu, during the 19th Convocation Ceremony of the institution.

Sir Nwosu’s academic prowess and journey dates back to his Enugu State University years, where he accomplished and satisfied requirements for both post graduate diploma and masters in communications.

Being counted among the class of doctorate degrees holders, Nwosu, who is back to media practice having served two successive Anambra State governments back-to-back, expressed satisfaction for achieving the feat.

* Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has officially unveiling of its University Hospital, now named in honor of the late Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, CON. 

The newly named Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah University Hospital honors his extraordinary efforts, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, Senator Ubah mobilized the Anambra Progressive and Development Union, rallying friends and associates to fund the construction of three hospitals across Anambra’s three senatorial districts. The University Hospital in Awka, a cornerstone of this initiative, provided critical support during the global health crisis, embodying his vision of resilience and community service.

* The patron and sponsor of the Solution Ambassador of Nigeria (SAN) Chief Peter Ekwueme, has commended Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for redefining the concept of modern politics and leadership in the state.

Ekwueme, an industrialist, made the commendation in a statement, noting that Governor Soludo has taken the state to greater heights in the last three years.

According to Ekwueme, Soludo has practically implemented good governance with zero external or internal debt over the past 36 months, alongside unprecedented infrastructural development.

* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, has blessed a magnificent one-storey rectory and a water borehole project at Holy Trinity Parish, Ndiukwuenu in Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State, for aggressive evangelism in the community.

The Catholic Bishop, who was on pastoral visit to the Parish, confirmed 110 young Catholics in the community.

While delivering a homily during a Holy Mass marking the visit, Bishop Ezeokafor inspired by the readings of the day, admonished the Ndiukwuenu Catholic Community to strive to repent of their sins now they had the opportunity so that eternal damnation would elude them.
