* The Vice Chancellor of st Paul University, Venerable Obiorah Nwosu has thanked Archbishop Alexander Ibezim for working towards stabilizing the school and prayed God to continue to protect him in good health.

Nwosu made the statement at the tuning of the sod for the building of the new faculty of Financial and Management Sciences and other Allied Courses edifice.

The donor Sir Samuel Nzekwe who spoke through his younger brother, Jonathan Nzekwe called for the practice of faith in all affairs of men saying that with faith one can move mountains and prayed for the blessings to enable them to accomplish their vow, calling on people to impact humanity.

* The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the rescue and safe return of a kidnapped victim at Umuege Village, Amawbia, Awka and has debriefed the victim for necessary action.

This is following a hot chase and strategic positioning of Police Operatives attached to the Central Police Station Awka, on the receipt of information about the abduction of the victim

According to the Spokesperson of
Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, this made the criminals operating in an unmarked Sienna vehicle to abandon the victim in Umunya along Enugu/Onitsha Expressway and fled the scene.

To this end, the Commissioner of Police has directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Further developments would be communicated accordingly .

* The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, joined family, friends, and political associates at the funeral ceremony of Dr. Boniface Chukwuma Emengini, held in Ayamelum LGA of Anambra State.

In his tribute, Barr. Ezeokenwa described the late Emengini as “a philanthropist, a devoted Christian, and a great APGA stakeholder.

The burial mass was presided over by the Bishop of Aguleri Catholic Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Denis Isiuzo and attracted dignitaries from various walks of life, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders.

* The Archbishop, province of the Niger Most Rev Alexander Ibezim has performed the tuning of the sod for the building of the new faculty of Financial and Management Sciences and other Allied Courses edifice at the Paul University Awka which will be facilitated by Sir Samuel Nzekwe

Speaking during the event, Ibezim who is the Bishop of Awka Diocese called on all to contribute towards the development of God’s works and regretted that Personal interest has destroyed the society, thanking the family of Nzekwe for their interest in building the Faculty of Financial and Management Sciences edifice for the institution, noting that such would boost the academic standards of the school even as he commended the Nzekwe family for renovating the old cathedral in Awka.

The Prelate warned the students against using charms as well as indulging in fornication and other evil practices saying that the anger of God will visit those involved in such acts soon.

* Indigenes of Agbudu Community in Orumba South Local Government Area have protested over what they termed unconstitutional tenure elongation of the incumbent President General, Mr. Cyril Okpalaeke

Ndi Agbudu took the protest to Anambra State government house, stating that
tenure elongation of the PG is causing disaffection in the community, threatening the peace they enjoy.

The protesters where chanting solidarity songs to express their grievances, and held placards with inscriptions such as: “We say no to illegalities and abuse of power”. “Mr. Cyril Okpalaeke, leave us in peace”. Conduct fresh election in Agbudu”. “We say no to tenure elongation. Enough is enough”.

Speaking while showing their displeasure over the situation, Chief Nwangu Igem explained that the current PG’s tenure expired January 2025 but to remain in office, the PG amended the constitution without the knowledge of the community in order to remain in office.

Responding, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, commended the community for a peaceful protest over the issue and emphasized that the ministry is making effort to peacefully resolve the matter, noting also that the matter is before a court and the ministry cannot override the court, calling for a peaceful approach to resolving the dispute.

* The Local Government Chairman of Idemili South local government area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has commissioned rehabilitated potable water project, and solar power system in Ogunzelle village, Awka-Etiti.

Speaking during the commissioning, Hon. Obi said that her administration is committed to the progress and development of the council area.

The Mayor revealed that the projects were testament of the good collaboration between the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and stakeholders to bring more dividends of democracy to the people.

While highlighting the projects of the present administration in the state especially in Idemili South, she appealed to them to take the message of Solution government to every nooks and crannies of their wards.

* In its bid to improve life-course vaccination in Anambra State, the SYDANI Initiative for International Development has trained vaccinators and recorders from three local government areas in Anambra State for subsequent deployment for its special outreach program.

This will take place under its special intervention entitled “Saving Lives and Livelihood (SLL) Phase 2 project, which aims to strengthen the already-existing immunization system and services, for greater efficiency and better results.

Apart from Anambra, SLL is taking place in 9 other Nigerian states and 37 LGAs. The states are: Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, FCT, Niger, Kogi, Oyo, Osun and Rivers.

While addressing participants, Dr. Obiamaka Enwezor, a Manager at Sydani Group, explained that the Saving Lives and Livelihoods (SLL) initiative was conceptualized by the Africa CDC in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, with key objectives including the integration of life-course vaccines into routine immunization, protection of healthcare workers, and strengthening of pandemic preparedness

Enwezor explained that the project also aims to expand the scope of routine immunization to include adult vaccination.

* Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu joined News Central TV at Radisson-Onyx Hotel for a security Town Hall Meeting.

The meeting was aimed at interacting with the citizens, especially ndi Anambra, where thoughts on security concerns were provoked.

The security stability of the State was also x-rayed and suggestions proferred to improve safety and security in the State.

In his remark, the CP reiterated the need for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to resolve issues bordering on disputes over Land, such as Kingship tussles, boundary issues, farmers/herders clashes and/or any other related issues.

Orutugu noted that some of these issues, if not properly addressed, degenerate into serious crimes and crisis.

* Anambra State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Comdt. Maku Olatunde has conducted an on the spot assessment to several JAMB CBT examination centers in Awka, assessing security arrangements and interacting with deployed personnel.

The visited centers, including JAMB Office ICT Center, St. Patrick’s College Awka, and St. John of God Awka, reported smooth proceedings with robust security, zero incidents, and JAMB officials assisting candidates.

Commandant Maku, during his visit to the exam centers, emphasized the importance of maintaining a professional demeanor, urging officers and men to remain courteous and respectful in their interactions with candidates, thereby ensuring a positive experience for all.

Interacting with personnel at the centers, Commandant Maku stressed the need for politeness and civility, reminding them that their conduct would reflect not only on themselves but also on the entire security agency.

* It was a joyous and momentous occasion for the Management and students of Fides School of Theology and Evangelization, Awka, as they gathered at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, for their 2024/2025 and Second Matriculation Ceremony.

The historic event, also featured the graduation of 2015 to 2024 Set, and commissioning of new evangelizers by the Proprietor of the School and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor.

In a homily during the Mass, Bishop Ezeokafor stated the essence of the School, saying that Church earnestly wanted to have lay faithful who were exposed and learned about the things of God.

The Prelate expressed the belief that when the lay faithful were knowledgeable about the things of God, the work of a priest would be easier for him.
