Please return back home, Anambra PDP begs Peter Obi

…faults alliance with coalition actors

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra State Chapter has begged the former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi to return back to the party PDP.

The party believed that his return, alongside other aggrieved and former members of the party, will further reunite the already rejuvenated and restructured PDP.

The State Chairman of the party, Comrade Chidi Chidebe stated this on Thursday in a communique issued at the end of the enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee at PDP’s Secretariat Awka.

He said Anambra PDP dissociated itself from any unauthorized political coalitions not sanctioned by the party leadership, urging members to remain committed to the ideals, vision, and unity of the PDP.

Comrade Chidebe further warned that any involvement in such unauthorized coalitions will be deemed as anti-party activity and will
attract disciplinary measures.

“Any State, LGA, or Ward officer found to
be part of any such group will be considered to have exited the party, and any position held by such an individual shall be declared vacant.

“The Committee restates its full and unwavering support for the PDP candidate in the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election, Hon. Jude Ezenwafor, and his running mate, Barr. Francis Okeke.

“We urge the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fairness, transparency, and impartiality throughout the electoral process.

“The Committee unanimously nominated Chief Clems Ezika, SAN to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra State. We respectfully request the South East Zonal Executive Committee led by Chief Ali Odefa, PhD to affirm this nomination and transmit it accordingly to the National Secretariat.

“The Executive Committee reiterated its unwavering commitment to the rebuilding
and repositioning of the PDP, a party founded on the tripod vision of an equitable, peaceful, and progressive Nigeria, a vision championed by one of Anambra State’s illustrious sons and the party’s pioneer leader, the late Dr Alex Ekwueme, of blessed memory.

“The Committee commends the national leadership of our great party ably led by
Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, the PDP Governors Forum, the Board of Trustees (BoT), the Party Caucus, the Forum of PDP State Chairmen, and the entire National Executive Committee (NEC) for the successful hosting of the NEC meeting held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

“We note with satisfaction the well-outlined processes agreed upon at the NEC to resolve the lingering internal crises that have affected the party nationally. We express hope and confidence in the path of reconciliation and revival now underway,” Comrade Chidebe concluded.

Chidebe however expressed concern over the unexpected decamping of the immediate former State chairman, Chief Ndibisi Nwobu.

“The State Executive Committee discussed extensively on the decamping of Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu who has been a strong pillar to the party, unfortunately, we have nothing to do about it. The much we can do is to wish him well in his future political aspirations. But not withstanding, been are determined, resolute, committed to the affairs of the party and taking the party to greater heights.”

On Anambra South Senatorial Bye election, he said “we don’t know the plan of INEC in the election as it has failed to give us further communication in that regard. As soon as it does, we will follow the direction.”###
