Barr Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe has been sworn-in as a member of the 8th Anambra State House of Assembly to represent Onitsha North 1 Constituency.
Recall that Barr Azikiwe won the bye-election conducted in that constituency on Saturday 16th August 2025, to assume the vacant seat occupied by the late predecessor, Hon Justice Azuka of the Labour Party who was kidnapped and killed in the state in late December last year.
But during plenary in Awka on Thursday, the Speaker, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze administered the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Membership on her.
He congratulated her on her victory at the bye-election and urged her to bring her wealth of knowledge and experience to bear in the discharge of her legislative duties.
The Speaker encouraged her to work harmoniously with other lawmakers for the overall progress of her constituency and the state, assuring her of the Assembly’s support in carrying out her responsibilities.
While supporting the motion for adjournment, the new lawmaker for Onitsha North 1 Constituency, Hon Azikiwe assured her constituents that she will speak boldly for them and work tirelessly to ensure that their demands are heard and acted upon by the government.
She further acknowledged her late predecessor Justice Azuka whose life was sadly cut short and pledged to carry forward his mandate with courage, dedication, and an unwavering voice for Ndi Onitsha North 1 Constituency.
“I promise to give quality representation to my constituents with a view to addressing infrastructure issues, roads, youths empowerment programmes, education, basic SME programme for young women in the area. This is a call to duty and service.
“Am the first woman to represent Onitsha North One and had already, attracted road project there before I was sworn-in,” the new lawmaker said.
Hon Azikiwe also applauded her constituents especially her COaspirants, Chiejina Obieze, Ezennia Emelie lbekwe, Pat Egwuatu and Ifeanyi Ndulue for supporting her mandate.
“Permit me also to greet my father, Barr Nnabuenyi Odilkpeazu, my husband, Ozomma Alex Azikiwe, my aunty, Rt. Hon. Barr. Beverly lkpeazu-Nkemdiche, and the critical stakeholders including the Mayor Onitsha North, Nweze Tony Nworah, His Youthfulness, Hon Patrick Aghamba, SPAD Political, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, former House members, Hon Ifeanyi lbegbu and Hon Ejiofor Egwuatu, the Party Chairman, Dr Okwy Maduekwe, my DG Romanus Ezeanya and my ward Chairman Adimora Chude and so many others that constraints oftime would not allow me mention.”
