The Dangote Group has issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident involving one of the company’s trucks near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.
In its official release, the conglomerate confirmed that its officials and insurance partners had fully covered Ruth’s medical and associated expenses, including arrangements for her to receive advanced treatment in India.
The statement read:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor… Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family. Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.”
The Dangote Group reaffirmed its commitment to safety, accountability, and compassion, calling for continued improvements to its safety systems while extending condolences to the Otabor family.
Ruth Otabor had been critically injured in an accident earlier this month that resulted in the amputation of her leg. She passed away in the hospital at approximately 6:30 a.m., as confirmed by family statements released via Eko Solicitors & Advocates.
