The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a heartfelt message of condolence following the tragic death of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija 2022 winner, Phyna. She succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash involving a heavy-duty truck linked to the Dangote Group.
In a statement, FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide, on behalf of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow to the Otabor family, the Students’ Union, and the Auchi Polytechnic community.
The Corps emphasised its commitment to preventing such incidents through intensified collaboration with major fleet operators—including Dangote, BUA, and other heavy-truck companies—through driver training and recertification programmes.
“To this end, the Corps Marshal wishes to assure the public that the Corps remains committed to creating safer road environments across Nigeria,” the statement read in part.
As part of its proactive response, the FRSC also held meetings with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to address concerns and outline the Corps’ continued interventions in road safety management.
The tragic accident occurred on August 13, 2025, when the truck collided with a commercial motorcycle near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. The crash resulted in the amputation of Ruth Otabor’s leg; she passed away on August 31.
