# The Anambra State Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, has called on the state government to create a drug management agency as part of steps to bring an end to the regime of substandard and counterfeit drug distribution in the state.
PSN made the call through its state Chairman, Pharmacist Emeka Okpana during a press briefing to mark World Pharmacists Day in Awka.
Pharmacist Okpana said the establishment of a Distribution Management Agency, DMA, will help reshape the drug distribution landscape and will, in time, make the state a model for the rest of Nigeria.
He commended the state government for the ongoing construction of Coordinated Wholesale Distribution Center in Oba, which he said will be a game-changer when completed, but harped on the importance of a wholesome implementation of the National Drug Distribution Guideline.
# The Anambra State House of Assembly has recommitted itself to advancing gender equality, justice, and social protection, with a renewed focus on preventing violence against women and girls (VAWG).
The Speaker of the House, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, made the pledge at a one-day workshop organized by Women Aid Collective (WACOL) in partnership with the Ford Foundation.
The workshop sought to strengthen the capacity of government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to adopt strategic actions against VAWG and harmful practices, while ensuring the implementation of existing laws on gender-based violence.
Represented by Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe, member for Onitsha North I constituency, the Speaker commended WACOL for keeping the fight alive.
# The CEO Pineleaf Estates and Homes Ltd, Archbishop Onyeka Nzekwesi has lauded the Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) President General, Chief Humphrey Anuna on the two books he launched recently titled “Igbo Apprenticeship System (Igba Boi)’ and ‘Becoming Rich or Poor,”.
Speaking shortly after the Book launch which held at ASMATA Secretariat, Modebe Avenue Onitsha, Archbishop Onyeka Nzekwesi said that the books were intentional to help the young ones understand the rules of wealth.
In his opening remark, Chief Humphrey Anuna said that he authored the book based on what is happening in Anambra State, that include the youths’ negligence on igba boi scheme, disclosing that it is the master trader that would tell you his experience.
He stated that the westerners started this apprenticeship scheme in form of slave trade but Ndi igbo in their own way do it as it is today that parents take their children to the master trader to serve as apprentice traders for some years prior to settlement and being self reliant.
# The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched a study to identify hotspots with likelihoods of electoral violence ahead of the November 8th Governorship election in Anambra State.
During a one-day training held in Awka, the Chairman, Board of INEC Electoral Institute (TEI), Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, said the methodology workshop on Elections Violence Mitigation and Advocacy Tool (EVMAT) for field workers and supervisors demonstrated INEC’s commitment towards a successful 2025 governorship poll in the state.
Prof. Zuru whose message was read by the Acting Director General TEI, Professor Sani Ibrahim, described the gathering as a testament to the shared commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy through peaceful, credible, transparent and inclusive elections.
# The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has commenced its Ward Tour campaign as part of preparations for the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.
Addressing supporters during the campaign, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, described Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo as a first class professor who has managed the resources of the state prudently and delivered tangible projects across sectors.
He assured that the roads linking Isiagu and Ezinator would soon be completed, adding that Soludo had already constructed numerous kilometers of road and flagged off new ones within three years in office.
Dr. Ibezim who urged women and youths to mobilize support and ensure victory for APGA in every polling unit, emphasized the target of “one million votes” for Soludo.
# As Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary draws near, the Deputy Chairman Anambra State Traditional rulers Council and Chairman Anambra North Traditional rulers Council Igwe Benjamin Okeji has urged all to pray for the country as only God can save them from the challenges confronting them.
According to the Chairman Southern Traditional rulers Council and the traditional ruler of Omasi, it is only God’s mercy that can save the country from the evil machinations of some daredevil political leaders.
Speaking ahead of the celebration,the royal father lamented over the hardship the masses are facing under uncoordinated leadership and economic deprivations.
He warned that if the critical issues facing the masses are not quickly addressed,the nation may not survive the looming catastrophe that may befall it.

# The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to HRH, Igwe Michael Okekeuche, of Enugwu-Agidi Ancient Kingdom and Igwe-in-Council, Ichie Ifeanyi Ndulue, said that a scheduled peace meeting spearhead by the traditional ruler and the council members will hold on September 26th, 2025.
Also speaking, Okekeuche called on all branches, villages, and all other organs of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), Nigeria, delegates for the Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting to be punctual to enable the committee achieve great success.
Ndulue said in an interview with journalists in Awka on Thursday that the meeting was apt and EBU have resolved to return peace in the community constitutionally through a peaceful dialogue.
Ndulue urged all statutory members of the CEC to make every effort to attend the upcoming CEC meeting scheduled for the 26th and 27th of September at the secretariat 10am dot.
