# A Professor Of Banking and Finance and former Dean Faculty Of Management Sciences Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Campus, Prof.Steve Ibenta is to present his Valedictory/ Ex-augural Lecture to mark his retirement from the University.

A Public Service announcement endorsed by Prof. Ibenta in Awka unleashed the title of his lecture as:”The Lost Paradise: The Power Of Money,Finance and Banking, and Politics Of Investment,Wealth Creation And Sustainable Society’

The occasion will also feature the unveiling of a Festschrift -collection of works in Finance by his colleagues and associates in his honour.

The title of the Festschrift according to him is”Financial Management And The Development Of The Nigerian Economy’

According to the press release,the date of the presentation is Wednesday 29th October,2025 beginning at 12 noon at the ASUU Secretariat Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Campus.

The release adds that the ex- augural lecturer has served the University around the country for about 30 years and wishes to share the fruits of a life time experience in research, teaching and service with the wider community.

Top government officials, political leaders,renowned academics, professionals, church leaders, traditional leaders,and other important personalities from across the state and beyond are expected to grace the occasion.

# The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim has praised the progress of ‘Boundary Committee’, noting that its effectiveness has prompted several communities to request demarcations and conflict resolution interventions.

Dr. Ibezim who also serves as the Chairman of SBC, in his opening remarks, during its quarterly meeting at the Lighthouse, Awka, emphasized that the Soludo-led administration has instituted a robust governance structure capable of serving the state effectively for years to come.

Ibezim revealed that the committee is determined with a renewed commitment to resolving boundary-related issues and promoting peaceful coexistence among
Anambra communities.

In his address, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Boundary Matters, Office of the Deputy Governor, Hon. Ekenechukwu Okoye, reiterated that the primary goal of the committee is to foster peaceful coexistence among neighboring communities and states.

Okoye affirmed that the committee remains committed to its mandate until Governor Soludo’s vision of a liveable and prosperous Anambra is fully realized.

# The Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi marked the occasion of his birthday celebration with a visit to the Awka Custodial Centre of Nigerian Correctional Service.

The ANSFA Chairman who was joined during the visit by a retinue of football stakeholders in Anambra State and beyond celebrated his birthday giving out snacks, drinks and other edibles to the inmates as well as cash prizes to support the mini-soccer competition at the Correctional Centre whose grand finale coincidentally was held on the day in the presence of the celebrant and officers of the Correctional Centre.

In his remarks during the visit, Chief Iloenyosi stated that the visit to the Awka Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service was to celebrate one of the best moments of his life with the inmates by giving them a sense of belonging as humans despite their plight as well as to show love and care that inspite of their predicament that there are people in the society who truly values their social well-being.

The Anambra FA Boss disclosed that he will donate a trophy and institute prizes in December to support the already existing football competition being played among the inmates of the 13 cells of the Correctional Service Centre as part of promoting football growth and strengthening the harmonious relationship among the inmates. He charged the inmates to be of good behaviour always even in their state of confinement.

Responding the Deputy Controller of Nigerian Correctional Service, Awka Custodial Centre, Lawrence Amaechi extolled Chief Iloenyosi for his contributions to the growth of sports in the state through football.

He prayed God to continue to grant the Anambra FA Chairman the enablement to do more exploits through football.

# Former members of the Operation Udo Ga-achi security agency have been arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court of Anambra State, sitting at Awka.

Four of the former security members were accused of conspiring to commit felony of: indecently assaulting, willfully inflicting physical injuries, stripping naked and unlawfully intimidating a female member of the National Youth Service Corps, at Oba, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In a-7 count charge brought against them by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, the former Udo Ga-achi operatives, namely: Emmanuel Samson, aged 29, Jude Obasi, aged 43, Ndudirim Michael, aged 28, Nweke Ezinwanne; aged 27, Emeka Emetumba, Nwanne Afuonu, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following bail application made by the Defense counsel, the presiding Chief Magistrate, His Worship U. E. Onochie, in-charge of the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court of Anambra State, granted bail to the four defendants, and adjourned the case to the 14th day of January, 2026, for definite hearing.

# The Governorship candidate of Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the November 8th 2025 election Sir Paul Chukwuma has listed measures to tackle insecurities if elected into office.

Chukwuma while speaking during an interactive session with the academics of the higher institutions in Anambra State, maintained that he will deploy technology and allow the local government to enjoy its full autonomy as already approved by President Bola Tinubu led Federal government and Supreme Court.

“The problem we are facing in the LG Administration is part of the problems of insecurity. To tackle insecurities, I will set the security subcommittee across the 181 communities.

“I will liaise with relevant security agencies. We will do security mapping to identify the key issues and how to tackle them across communities.

“Most of the houses are not properly identified by the LG. We don’t have a data base of those houses. I will build a database of houses for easy identification of those houses, their owners and people living in those houses. Only those who have genuinely impacted positively on the society will have their names on our streets.

“Our streets will not be used in honouring the rich without sources of income or reputation. Everything will be by merit. We will mount security cameras across 21 LGAs as a good measures to tackle insecurities.

“We will invest in technologies using CCTV and traffic lights to monitor and track security. Our local Vigilante must be reformed.

# The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) says it is deepening its job creation strategies through digital inclusion and vocational reorientation of Nigerian youths, particularly in Anambra and other parts of the Southeast.

Speaking in Awka, the Anambra State Coordinator of the NDE, Pastor Don Ebere Anaba, said the agency has evolved from its traditional apprenticeship and agricultural programs into technology-driven initiatives that prepare young people for emerging global job markets.

According to Anaba, the agency’s mandate remains the same today “to reduce unemployment to the barest minimum by equipping Nigerians, especially youths, with employable and entrepreneurial skills.”

Pastor Anaba explained that the Directorate operates through four major departments—Rural Employment Promotion (REP), Vocational Skills Development (VSD), Small Scale Enterprises (SSE), and Special Public Works (SPW)—each designed to train and empower different categories of unemployed citizens.

# The Managing Director of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, says technology is critical to the survival of Nigerian youths in today’s fast-changing job market.

Speaking on the agency’s mandate, Agbata said this is why the ICT Agency is not only digitizing governance but providing digital infrastructure that enables innovation, skills development, and employability.

The ICT guru commended the commitment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to digitization which he noted has enabled his agency to achieve the much it has achieved.

# The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Consultant of Integral Development Konsult (IDK), Mrs Chinwe Nweke says International Foundation Year (IFY) Study Abroad Programme will commence on October 20, 2025, at its Awka Study Centre.

Mrs. Nweke disclosed this during the maiden edition of IDK Global Education Fair (IGEF 2025), themed “The Future of International Education in Nigeria: Unlocking the Global University Opportunities for Nigerian Students.”

The event also featured the official unveiling of the IDK University Pathways International Study Centre and the NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY) 2025, attracting educators, policymakers, international university representatives, students, and friends of the Managing Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of the IDK Group, Mrs. Chinwe Nweke.

According to the CEO, enrollment is on-going into the programme which is meant to bring international education closer home to students in the state and Southeast region.
