# The Senate of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has elected three new Deputy Vice-Chancellors during its plenary session. The announcement of their respective portfolios was officially made by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha.

The newly elected Deputy Vice-Chancellors are: Prof. Anselm Nweke – Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Environmental Sustainability), Prof. Obiorah Ejiofor – Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and Prof. Sylvia Okonkwo – Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Uli Campus and Development)

# The Chairman of Anambra State Village Chairmen, Hon. Kingsley Ozalagba has commended Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for engaging 200 youths from Anambra State in the Training on Table Fish production business system.

Ozalagba gave the commendation during the induction of the 200 Youths cum launching of the ECOWAS Youth Employability Program 2.0 in Anambra State which took place at the ETF Building Auditorium, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.

“Human capacity development is a priority for of the Solution Government. Anambra State government has been prioritizing its investments on youths to better their lives. Some weeks ago 8300 youths were empowered in different skills under the Second Batch of the 1 Youth 2 skills.

” This very program in aquaculture is another opportunity for young people who want to engage in fish production to acquire the needed skills.

“The trainees should take the training very serious because in the today’s world if you have nothing to offer, you will be at the back seat. They should be patient enough to learn all they can and Anambra State is willing to give our own support. I thank Ecowas for engaging our Youths. For one to survive in the present world you need a skill,,” he said.

# The Anambra State Police Command has received a report of the abduction of a medical doctor at Uruagu, Nnewi, in Nnewi North LGA.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred on Friday 2025, when the unidentified assailants reportedly abducted the victim under yet-to-be-ascertained circumstances.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu immediately ordered the launch of an intensive investigation and directed the tactical teams of the Command to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and apprehension of the perpetrators.

The Command assures members of the public that every effort is being made to ensure the swift resolution of the Case.

# As political activities intensify ahead of the November 8 Anambra governorship election, the Mayor of Orumba North LGA, Barr. Casmir Nwafor, convened a strategic meeting with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ward chairmen across the council area.

The meeting chaired by the Mayor alongside the Local Government APGA Chairman, Chief Hon. Cyril Macarthy Nwobu, and the LGA Secretary, Hon. Ben Ekwenie, had all ward chairmen in attendance.

In his remarks, Mayor emphasized the need for unity and coordination across all wards as the election approaches. He charged the party leaders to resolve any lingering internal issues and work collectively to ensure a landslide victory for APGA and Governor Chukwuma Soludo whose leadership, he noted, has brought visible transformation to the state.

He urged the ward chairmen to intensify grassroots mobilisation and maintain constant engagement with party members and supporters at the community level.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, has commended the unique youth empowerment programme of the Obosi Community in Idemili North, tagged “One Household, Two Skills”, and agreed that the government’s “1 Youth, 2 Skills” needs to target families as well.

Dr. Mefor called on the rest of Anambra’s 178 communities to replicate Obosi’s empowerment to complement government efforts in job creation.

The initiative was showcased during the Obosi Innovation Skills and Empowerment Programme (OBISEP), held at the Obosi Town Hall, this October.

Representing the Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Mefor, lauded the Obosi community for its distinctive approach to empowerment that centres on families.

# Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI), a youth–led non-profit, non-partisan and community-based organization has called for the establishment of an electoral offences commission to prosecute electoral offenders and uphold election integrity.

The Executive Director of CATYCOI, Comrade Nonso Orakwe, made the call penultimate Wednesday at a Forum organized under Campaign Against Voter Apathy (CAVA) project in Awka, the state capital.

According to Orakwe, the current laws empowering the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are insufficient to address electoral fraud.

Orakwe called on the Federal Government to create an independent selection committee to nominate INEC leadership to the National Assembly to remove political influence over electoral authority’s officials.

# The Acting Vice-Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, has described valedictory lectures as a pivotal milestone in the university system.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony, ex-augural lecture, and festschrift presentation of Prof. Steve Nkem Ibenta, held at the ASUU Secretariat, UNIZIK, Awka, Prof. Arinze-Umobi represented by the Head of Department, Religion and Human Relations, Prof. Kanayo Nwadialor noted that while inaugural lectures announce a professor’s accomplishments in their field, valedictory lectures mark the culmination of a professor’s full-time academic career, providing a platform to give an account of their stewardship in the university, the community and the world at large, which only a few get to present.

The Acting VC commended the title of Prof. Ibenta’s valedictory lecture, “The Lost Paradise: Power of Money, Finance & Banking, and Politics of Investment Wealth Creation & Sustainable Society,” describing it as apt given Nigeria’s economic situation.

In his valedictory lecture, Prof. Ibenta expressed gratitude to those who inspired his work and reiterated the role of money, banking, and finance in shaping economic, social, and environmental transformations. He emphasized the need for modern monetary policies and specialized financial institutions to foster inclusive and sustainable development in Nigeria.

# In preparation for the Christmas season and the expected increase in traffic, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno has emphasized the importance of teamwork, idea sharing, and coordination to achieve a seamless operation during the ember months.

Asekhauno while speaking during a
stakeholders’ meeting at the Onitsha Unit Command, urged drivers to exercise patience and avoid reckless driving behaviors, highlighting the need to refrain from illegal parking and loading/unloading by commercial drivers.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss strategies for managing traffic congestion at the Bridge Head during the holiday season.

The aim was to promote collaboration and synergy for effective traffic management and to ensure free vehicular movement during the ember month period. She said.

# The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi has deployed over 10,000 operatives including Tactical Forces from the Corps’ National Headquarters.

Audi while addressing the State Commandants and Heads of Tactical Squads relayed that the deployment hinged on the need to collaborate with the Nigeria Police who is the lead agency in Election duty noting that with effective Coordination, Cooperation and Collaboration amongst the security agencies there would be a violence-free elections.

The NSCDC boss while speaking ahead of the governorship election in Anambra State on Saturday 8th November 2025,
warned desperate politicians against insightful statements and actions that could trigger violence before, during, and after the governorship election.

# The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially unveiled its National Election Management Council ahead of the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

According to the party, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, will serve as Chairman, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, and Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, will serve as Co-chairmen.

The list, released via APC’s official X handle, includes over 100 members, drawn from national and South-East political figures — among them the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.

The council, which is divided into committees such as Finance, Media, and Mobilisation, was inaugurated on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the CJ Paterson Auditorium, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha.

NJIKOKA LGA SHOWS SUPPORT FOR SOLUDO/IBEZIM WITH ₦50,000,000 DUMMY CHEQUE AT MEGA RALLY

Njikoka Local Government Area today donated a ₦50,000,000 dummy cheque to the Soludo/Ibezim campaign organization during a mega rally held in support of the administration. The event drew a large crowd of party supporters, community leaders, and residents who came out to show solidarity with the current leadership team.

The cheque presentation was a symbolic show of support and encouragement for the continued work of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim. Speakers at the rally praised their developmental strides and called for continued unity as the team pushes forward with its vision for a better Anambra State.
