Nigerian nightlife entrepreneur and social commentator, Cubana Chief Priest, has issued a strongly worded warning to President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (MNK), leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will cost the administration significant electoral support in the South-East ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a lengthy public statement posted on social media, he argued that Kanu remains “the supreme leader of South-East,” adding that the region’s political loyalty is inseparable from his release.
“As long as MNK remains in jail, you cannot and will never get up to 10,000 votes in South-East come 2027,” he wrote, addressing the president directly. “MNK is the supreme leader of South-East. His detention has caused us so much setback.”
He accused ministers from the region of failing to convey grassroots sentiments to the presidency, describing them as “cowards” who “lack capacity.” He also dismissed the influence of political allies who attended a recent private meeting with Seyi Tinubu, saying, “They are just bags of deceit… They can’t even go to their hometowns because of MNK detention.”
According to him, Kanu’s imprisonment has damaged the standing of South-East governors as well. He cautioned Imo State governor Hope Uzodimma that his achievements risk being “swept under the carpet” if he does not push for Kanu’s release.
“Without MNK outside, everything shall fall into pieces,” he warned. He urged President Tinubu to appeal Kanu’s life imprisonment judgment, saying, “Only MNK can guarantee you real votes from South-East.”
Cubana Chief Priest also criticised the president’s decision to send a minister to represent him at Governor Alex Otti’s project commissioning in Abia State, describing the minister as “incompetent” and calling the move a diplomatic misstep in Kanu’s home state.
He concluded with a final caution ahead of the next general election: “Get it right or get ready to check out of the villa come 2027. South-East belongs to MNK. This is the word of the gods.”
The presidency has not yet responded to his remarks.
