# The Young Catholic Students of Nigeria (YCSN), Awka Diocese, in collaboration with Angelic Voices Foundation, organised the 2025 Bishop’s Carol with over thirty three secondary schools participating.
This year’s Bishop’s Carol was sponsored by the Managing Director of Princeton Specialist Hospital and Orthopaedic Centre, Awka, Dr. Amaechi Nwachukwu.
The event which was preceded by a Concelebrated Eucharistic celebration, witnessed different renditions and cultural displays from all the participating schools.
In his homily, Bishop Ezeokafor, who dwelled on the theme of this year’s event, “Let The Children Come To Me” (Mark 10-14), said the Church would continue to provide the enabling environment for the young ones to grow and become better individuals that would be useful to themselves, families, Church and society at large, exhorting the students to leverage the numerous opportunities presented to them by the Universal Church. He assured that the Mother Church would keep working for the students’ spiritual and moral development.
# Anambra State House of Assembly has commenced 2026 Budget Defence And Bilateral Discussion with Ministries, Departments, Agencies and other government parastatals.
The Chairman Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropration, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu in his opening remark maintained that as lawmakers, they will do everything within their powers to make sure that all Ministries, and Agencies perform better through assisting them in achieving the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
During its appearance before the lawmakers, the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, led by its Commissioner, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, presented a budget proposal of 5.9 billion.
Hon. Nnake who noted that the 2026 budget is a continuity with new initiatives and transformation agenda, stated that as at October 2025, 61 percent have been achieved.
During its presentation, Ministry of Finance led by its Commissioner, Hon. Izu Okafor, presented a capital budget proposal of 6.6 billion naira.
In his presentation, Okafor who outlined the major projects and plans of the ministry, revealed that the budget reflects the vision of Governor Soludo. We intend to transform the ministry.
Also, the Managing Director Anambra State ICT, Mr. Chukwuemeka Agbata who presented a buget estimate of 2.7 billion, revealed that in 2026, the agency has plans to expand the digital transformation to many MDA’s.
The Budget Defence And Bilateral Discussion is expected to end in December 11th 2025.
# Fresh controversy has erupted in the family of late Anambra-based journalist Mr. Alphonsus Nweze, following allegations by his widow that two of his younger brothers sold his land for N12 million just three days after his burial, without informing her or her children.
Nweze, a respected reporter who covered Anambra State while residing in Asaba, died in early October in a motor accident on his way home from work in Onitsha.
The Nsukka-born journalist was buried about two weeks ago in his hometown amid widespread grief from colleagues, friends, and relatives.
On Saturday, members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Anambra State, visited the family’s Asaba residence to commiserate with his widow, Mrs. Chioma Alphonsus Eze, and their four children.
The delegation, led by the Chapel Chairman, Chief Chuks Ilozue, presented a cheque of N600,000, a support fund raised by journalists and well-meaning individuals.
# Undergraduates have been encouraged to always take advantage of medical institutions provided by the Government within their institutions to run vital health checks before medication.
Some medical Practitioners serving the Compulsory National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, made the call when they embarked on health sensitization of students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra state .
The health sensitization which was taken to the male and female hostels within the institution was part of Personal Community Development Services initiated by one of the Corps Members serving in the school, Mr Francis Henry with support from a Non Governmental Organisation, African Health Connect Initiative and the Ministry of Health Anambra state .
The Corps Members who were all Medical Practitioners serving in Anambra state carried placards with various inscriptions like Food Poisoning is preventable, Practice hygene,, Protect Yourself, Avoid hard drugs, Eat right stress less, prevent Ulcer, Early care saves life, as they moved round the institution for the Awareness and Wellness Outreach.
The Initiator of the exercise , Mr Henry who is a Nurse serving at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Medical Centre encouraged the students to always go for medical checks to determine the state of their blood pressure, sugar level and others to avoid preventable complications. He cautioned them against indulging in hard drugs and other illicit practices that is capable of derailing their academic pursuit.
# The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor attended the Abatete Development Organisation (ADO), Abuja Branch Meeting, marking his first appearance in months due to official duties in Awka.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mefor highlighted key developments in Anambra State under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, including the exciting ‘Onwa Dezemba’ initiative, Governor Soludo’s historic 21/21 electoral victory, and the state’s ongoing commitment to security.
According to Dr Mefor, “the ‘Onwa Dezemba’ initiative is an ambitious project aimed at making Anambra’s December 2025 festivities rival Lagos’s popular Detty December. The goal is to position Anambra as the cultural and entertainment heartbeat of the South East.”
While speaking about Governor Soludo’s resounding victory in the November 8, 2025 Gubernatorial Election, where he achieved a historic 21/21 sweep, winning in all 21 local government areas of Anambra, Mefor emphasised that Abatete Ward emerged number one statistically, in Idemili North LGA and proved to be APGA land.
# The Red Cross Society has honoured the local government Chairman of Njikoka, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba and his wife Lady Pamela Ononiba with distinguished titles in recognition of their unwavering support to humanitarian service.
The mayor was decorated as Patron, while his wife received the title of Mother-General, a tribute to her compassion, service, and consistent support for community welfare initiatives
Speaking during the presentation, the Red Cross leadership praised the couple for their outstanding commitment to excellent leadership within the local government.
They highlighted the Mayor’s proactive administration, people-centered policies, and continuous collaboration with humanitarian organizations as exemplary models of service.
The organization also lauded the Mayor’s wife for her motherly role, social impact programs, and advocacy for vulnerable groups, noting that her contributions have strengthened the humanitarian work of the Red Cross in the area.
# Dr. Chinedu Umeadi 7th edition Soccer Championship has kicked off in grand style in various villages across Abagana Community, in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State.
The opening ceremony, held at Igwebuike Field Abagana, between Enuora Orofia Abagana and Amaenye Abagana ended without any goal from both sides (0-0)
In his address, the founder and sponsor of the tournament, Dr. Chinedu Umeadi,
reaffirmed his passion for harnessing the talents of young people and providing them with platforms to excel.
The philanthropist represented by Sir. Ikem Onwuadi and Ozo Uchenna Umeadi of his foundation, Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation (DCUF), emphasized that the championship, now in it’s seventh consecutive edition, remains one of his strategic investments in grassroots development, unity, and peaceful coexistence among the youth.
# The Industrial Court in Abuja has reinstated Professor Bernard Odoh as the Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK.
In a statement, Prof. Odoh thanked God almighty for the victory.
According to Prof Odoh, “Today, my heart is overflowing with gratitude and joy, and I want to share this special moment with all of you who have been part of my journey.”
“After a long battle for truth and fairness, the Industrial Court in Abuja has finally delivered judgment in my favour in the case against the University of Gusau — fully affirming my rightful status as a Professor, effective ten years ago.”
“The Court also ordered the University to issue a written apology, awarded ₦5 million in damages and to restore all my rights and privileges .”
“This victory is more than a personal achievement — it is a testimony to God’s faithfulness, the power of resilience, and the support of good people who never stopped believing in me. There were tough days, heavy moments, and long nights… but through it all, I held onto hope. And today, justice has prevailed.”
